Perfect addition to the grill and griddle pieces purchased. I love having an ‘outdoor’ kitchen. The cooler feature was uses on a regular basis. It kept drinks cold. The lid did get very hot to touch die to it being metal and sitting in direct sunlight. I removed the plug and put a small bucket under the drain hole for the melted ice to drain freely. Overall I’m glad I purchases it.
Happy we purchased this. It completes our outdoor kitchen. Easy assembly only compliant is the design would make more sense and more efficient if storage cabinet was in front instead of back of the unit.
This is just such a great idea! My bq looks like it was a custom designed outdoor kitchen! This is the second house I’ve used the Charbroil bq’s to complete my outdoor kitchen design.
This is my second unit. The first one has held up great and is still in use. I expect this one will be just as good. Nice looking modular set with granite top and good features. The delivery guys were outstanding!! Best delivery Ive ever had.
Well I already have this unit in another home so I know exactly what it is and thats why I bought it. The entire modular set is outstanding and has held up great at our cottage for about 10 years. Yes its not used as often because its a cottage but when it is used its for a lot of people for days at a time. What did surprise is I have to assemble it!! What! You lose a star for that for sure. Should have written this after assembly.
Giving a 4 star only because I haven’t used it yet. Fit nicely in the same spot as my old outdoor kitchen set. Paid for setup through WF. No complaints there. Still need to run extension cords so the grill can be lit using the push-button ignition. Appearance-wise, I love it. Hope to have a break in the rainy weather and do some cooking on it and the griddle this weekend.
This is one of the worst purchases I have ever made and it was a very expensive and heavy one. This OUTDOOR Kitchen cabinet leaked in every section!!! - ruining everything I had in the upper compartments, under the sink, in the large sliding drawer. Some of it was expensive electrical equipment. It hadn't rained out here since I bought it; until this year, wherein we had weeks of rain (thankfully) this Outdoor cabinet leaked in every section like a sieve. I had assumed this OUTDOOR cabinet would be water-tight, since it is for outdoors. Of course I am probably past return time, since it just now rained this year to test it. Plus, it was a heavy delivery to return. I wonder if the company CharBroil can advise any way to make it water tight, refund the cost, or do something to make this right. Seems like Wayfair and CharBroil falsely described - saying it is an Outdoor Cabinet. And I am only late reporting the problem, due to just now having rain this year. I trusted my items were safe and protected.
I purchased this for my husband’s little patio BBQ kitchenette. Our refinishing project is nearly finished so excited to place this near his BBQ. It arrived by big truck and driver brought it to our garage. We removed the shipping materials and gazed at it in amazement. It’s beautiful and the neighborhood has been by to gaze at it too. Pictures will follow. It’s really we’ll made!
Terrible Manufacturing
I love the Medallion series and the other units but this thing is trash. First it does not come built - it is in pieces and is difficult at best to put together. Because of the way it was packed mine was damaged in shipping and I had to wait over a week for Char Broil to replace the damaged parts. When I finally got them the pieces did not fit together well. Contacted CharBroil again and they ask for pictures. Sent them they waited another 5 days then closed the ticket. If you can do the other pieces without this one it is highly advisable.
Looks great - not the best built
The items looks great and I have most of the modular grill accessories. The issue is it was like putting together IKEA furniture. Came in like 10 pieces and it didn’t seem many of the “inserts” were lined up properly. A lot of the bolts going into the threaded insert kept trying to strip. I used a hand screw driver and that was the worse. The impact torque gun at least shoved them in and they tightened up. Just wasn’t the best day for when it was put together. I’d buy again because it matched my set. Just be prepared for a little pain.
Two Year Review - Follow Up
I gave this grill a chance for 2 years and can now say it is a huge disappointment. My disappointment is largely due to the fact that it's a beautiful setup and I wanted it to work out so badly. But while it looks great, it does not work great, and the parts are a failure. CharBroil has been wonderful replacing parts that have broken down, but after 2, 3 4 times it is evident the quality is just not there. I've had all of the guts replaced. The heat tents inside buckled so many times, I now just use a hammer to mold it back to its original shape, the grates have been replaced, but keep rusting out, I have to use a grill pan because I am afraid to put my food on the grill. The Infrared Emitters rusted out and now have missing sections. The handles on the grill, the fridge and the knobs had to be replaced due to corrosion. Even the emblem on both the grill and fridge corroded. I thought these issues were due to the weather conditions in Florida, but my neighbors have other grills and not these issues. As a result I have concluded that while this is my experience, and yours may be different, I can not in good conscience recommend this outdoor kitchen modular.
Infrared is a Nightmare
This is my first infrared grill and I will NEVER buy another. The system is awful, just awful. First, and arguably the worst, is the fact that "infrared" only means a series of metal plates that cover the entire flame assembly, making it impossible to see the flames. To me, the entire point of cooking with gas is to be able to see - and therefore carefully adjust to the exact temperature - the flames. Otherwise, I might as well cook with charcoal or electric. Second, the flames are so low and anemic that I have never, not once, gotten the grill to go over 350 degrees fahrenheit. That's pathetic. Third, the plates are simply a collection point for every bit of marinade, sauce, and fat drippings, and have to be rigorously scrubbed on a regular basis, making the grill so labor-intensive, I really don't want to use it. What a horrible waste of money. You're far better off going with a company who will build you an outdoor kitchen that will use a REAL grill. You know, one with flames that you can see to adjust, and that heats to over 450 degrees so you can cook at high temperatures. The only reason I gave this unit two stars is that the storage drawers and cabinet underneath are quite handy. The grill itself is garbage.
Beware of the "Limited Warranty"
4 burner grill that doesn't get hot enough to clean. First it would not hit 300 degrees, they sent me a new HVR(gas line and gas controls) at my $18 shipping cost. That took it up for 375 degrees. I asked for a refund and was told "We do not do refunds". They sent me another HVR unit. Grill gets to 475 degrees after 28 minutes, no hotter. I requested a refund again and after sending them my proof of purchase for the third time, and a dozen pictures of the grill heating at different temps they said they would send me a 4th HVR unit. Disgusted with their customer service I was given the CEO of Charbroils email address. The response was "This grill will not go over 475 degrees, you can use vinegar to clean it" Huh? My girlfriends 2 burner Char Broil hits 650 degrees in 8 minutes and isn't that much smaller. They refused to give me a refund, now have refused to send me any more parts but offered me a 25 percent off coupon to use on their site. The CEO said even if the grill was a defective design, they will never give a cash refund, ever. The grill has 36 1 star reviews on their site all saying the same thing. Never again will I buy a Charbroil, this thing is sitting next to my trash in pieces. It is a grease fire waiting to happen!
Not For Everyone
I've had this grill for a month now and it is not for everyone so my advice would be to weigh all options. This grill is an infrared, so if you've never experienced cooking on infrared you should think twice about making this purchase. Cooking on this grill produces a lot of smoke, and I mean A LOT of smoke. Therefore, if you live in close proximity to your neighbors this is not the grill for you. You can expect to smoke out yourself, family, quests and your entire outdoor dining area. High heat, low heat, it doesn't matter. Since there are emitters in this grill you will need to do frequent cleaning since the firebox is not equipped to take on drippings and loose food. Expect to take the gates and emitters out to clean every 2-3 times you grill. In the fire box there are three Tents that cover the burners. Char-Broil has had to replace these tents twice already, (In a month), due to buckling from the heat. I suspect the new ones will buckle as well. My rating of 2 stars and no recommendation is based on my experience. If you live in an area where you have plenty of room between you and your neighbor, or the smoke won't bother you or your neighbor then go ahead and buy this grill because steaks do come out beautifully on this infrared grill. The price point is impressive given the look of the grill and the high cost of other models. This is a good looking grill that accents well in my Lanai, but for me it was a mistake. The smoke is too overwhelming and in hindsight I should have gone for the extra money and bought the better model from Lynx, Blaze or Webber.
Love it, but...
We purchased the 5-burner grill, corner piece, sink/entertainment piece, and refrigerator, a $3600+ purchase. The outdoor kitchen components are nicely designed, with a few issues. It's a shame this neat outdoor kitchen set is only available through Lowes. See our review of the 5-burner grill for that 12-day experience.
