This is the second time I’ve bought this exact model from Wayfair, and it does not disappoint.

The AC product works very well and keeps our family room at the desired temperature, thus taking a strain off the main AC unit that cools the entire house.

This thing pumps out serious air. The little unit in our bedroom wasn’t cutting it for our whole house during this crazy summer heat, but this unit is exceptional. I love that it has so many options and that it turns itself off once it hits the desired temperature. So efficient. And the noise doesn’t bother us. It’s in our living room and when it’s on it just sounds like a fan. The swing feature is great too and doesn’t make a peep.

Whirlpool 14000 btu portable ac heater

Whirlpool 14000 btu portable air conditioner and heater has issues. To align the vent hose into position, the bottom of a standard double hung window needs to be about 9" off the floor. The vent hose extends 11" straight out from the unit. Per Whirlpool's manual, installation distance should allow at least 31.5" (80cm) of air space from the rear side. The unit doesn't include a vent hose extension nor a drain hose. The vent panel may need to be cut to fit and to be sealed around edges.

I purchased this ac June 22, 2023, and it worked fine during the first summer was quiet and blew cool air, but fast forward 1 year and now it suddenly turned off. The compressor was extremely hot, so I completely cleaned the ac. I hooked it back up and ran it the next day for the whole day and then the next day it’s not blowing cool air. This portable ac didn’t even make 2 summers. I highly recommend not purchasing this product.

Wanted to like it but it trips breakers left and right.

Bought this in 2020/2021 as a backup in the AZ summer. Only used it a couple of times. This thing trips breakers constantly. I've tried setting the temp to 85 - 90 degrees and it trips. I've plugged it into a 15 amp and a 20 amp outlet dedicated to just the unit, it trips breakers. I had my service panel replaced along with all the breakers. Same result. The specs state 11.9 amp draw, and it is supposed to work in a 500 sqft room. My room is 120 sqft and it can't handle that. It is also not whisper quiet. It's quiet, but much louder than the claims. The other complaint I have is that the swing function swings the vent deflector up and down but there are no adjustments for left/right. If they added fins to help distribute the air a little better, it would be beneficial. However, it's a moot point since it won't stay powered on for more than 5 - 10 minutes at a time. I really wanted to like this AC unit, but it's just another very large paper weight that will sit in the corner collecting dust until it gets sent to GoodWill.

Short Lifespan

Bought this product under 2 years ago, only used on occasion in our basement during the warmer months. It stopped blowing cold air on year 2 - we tried all troubleshooting items the manual offers, but its likely the compressor giving out. For the price of $600 , a unit like this should last much longer. Especially considering how gently used it was and well taken care of. My advice, move on and get something else, less expensive and with a good warranty.

Works well but has design issues

First, let me say this does a good job for its main function, I.e.; cooling a fairly large area. We have it set up in a dining room that has large doorways leading to kitchen, living room and family room, and with ceiling fans helping to circulate the air, it definitely helps cool off the first floor. That’s the pro. Here are the cons:

I've owned this unit for 3 months, but have waited for the extreme heat and humidity of Monsoon season to arrive to write a review. I use this in a single car garage which is connected to my house. Weather conditions have been averaging 100-115+ degrees, 10-50% humidity outside. The average temp in the garage is 90-95 degrees, concrete floor, racks of stored gear. I don't run the unit all day, only when I am in the garage. At 100 degrees outside and no humidity, this unit will bring the inside temp. down to 76 in about 1.5 hours. Remember the floor and all the stored things were 90 degrees too, so that needs to cool off before the temp starts dropping quickly. At 110 and 40% humidity, I run it for a couple hours, and it will get down to 82.

I wanted a bigger AC unit for my apartment living room and kitchen open room area. I looked this company up and found that they were a new California company and thought OK great American made quality. Upon receipt I found the big sticker on the side that says "Made in China". This unit is disproportionately heavy for the increase in BTU over my bedroom units. The box was falling apart so it was a real challenge to carry to my third floor apartment. The unit came with a window seal kit too small for my window. The literature seems to deliberately never specify the exhaust hose size so it is impossible to purchase a third party window seal kit which you want because the provided seal kit is the poorest I have ever encountered. The seal kit uses a single small plastic pin to set in a hole on one piece of seal kit plastic board and then set on top of the other. Loose and floopy, only adjustable in about 1 inch increments. Thin and insufficient stick-on insulation was provided and no real instructions except to put the plastic pin in the hole. The hose connector fits in a circle on the window seal with 4 clips that fit in 4 notches cut around the window seal plate hole. However each clip leaves a significant air gap all the way around each clip so yet another seal issue left to the customer to sort out. I went to the company for help with the seal kit since they nowhere specify the exhaust hose size and their solution for larger windows is to buy a second Wynter brand seal kit and piece the two together to make one seal that fits using their flimsy single pin stack method of connecting the slats. You will have to cut a piece from new kit with a saw to fit as an add on to your provided kit and make it all work. I'm still waiting for the second seal kit but built the seal out myself because it was a hot day and I wanted it working. The AC unit itself is very noisy and does not control temperature accurately. Mine controls 2 degrees high across the temperature range. If I set it for 76F it cools to 78 and stops and so forth all the way down. The blower blows almost straight to the ceiling. Not sure that is the best solution. Also it takes about an hour to cool the room each 2F increment I tested it over which is poorer performance than a significantly smaller bedroom unit I used last summer. I live in a well insulated apartment so no real excuse for being so slow. Finally why is this AC unit advertised as 14,000 BTU but the limited paperwork provided has a unit specification table that lists it as a 10,300 BTU unit? That's a big difference. My favorite bedroom unit is a Delonghi brand. I should have stuck with that but I'm old and slow to wrap my head around a company best known for making coffee makers and espresso machines, making a good air conditioner.
