I wanted to install a grab bar next to my toilet in preparation for upcoming knee surgery. This product is quite hefty and should have provided more than adequate support when screwed into a stud. It was bigger than I anticipated (internet order) and didn’t fit my limited space well. I was also disappointed in the quality of the “Peened” surface that looked and felt cheap. I returned the item and bought a 9 inch grab bar which better suits my needs.
Functional Bar
I bought this to supplement an existing bar that was bought years ago. It matches well, but the knurling is a little gentler, which is just fine. It’s a good, sturdy bar. However, if I was starting from scratch, there are many more stylish options available now.
Nice grab bar. Installed for someone in a wheelchair on either side of toilet. Very sturdy and nice that it folds up out of the way when not in use. Good thing it is sturdy because box it came in literally looked like it had been hit by a train. Customer service person at HD actually looked embarrassed when she brought it out.
Moen 12" Peened finish Bathtub Shower Grab Bar
Very good quality material and fabrication. This diameter bar is good for small to medium size hands and the peened finish offers a reassuring tactile feel. Not decorative but has a solid, functional look. For a satisfying installation you MUST use correct, sturdy anchors and fasteners (screws) which may or may not be among those included in the box. Use the suggestions found in the instructions and then you'll be happy.

The product was fine, but my chat Info was not completely correct. It would not mount on a fiber glass shower unless could locate a stud. So had to order a special from moew to install it. That info should have been told to me in the chat. But other than that it worked fine.

This grab bar was installed today by a handyman. It is strong and reliable due to the non-slip finish. I like that escutcheon plates hide the screws. These are 1-1/4 inch diameter grab bars. After checking out grab bars in public restrooms and a at a recent hotel stay, we determined that the 1-1/4 inch diameter bars are easier to grab firmly than the 1-1/2 inch grab bars, thus we selected the thinner bars.

Grab Bar is great. The mounting screws are much less than great. Heads break off in wooden studs even when pilot holes are drilled. If you buy these Moen Grab Bars also buy new screws before starting installation to save time and money.

Easy to install, and these look and feel great. The “peened” surface provides a no-slip grip without affecting the finish substantially. I used the SecureMount system for two of the five handles I mounted, and highly recommend them for applications where the required positioning does not line up with wall studs.
A Perfect Solution When Not All Toilet Users Need The Grab Bar
Very sturdy, nicely peened, just the right length from the wall. Our professional carpenter installed a plywood plate against the wall behind the steel anchoring plate because the studs were such that only one side of lag screws could reach the studs. The only (significant!) improvement I would make would be a tension adjustment so the bar can be partially raised and stays in place without falling back to the horizontal position. We installed three units, only one of which had sufficient friction at the pivot to remain partially raised without falling back down.

The grab bar itself is of good quality. However, the screws included for installation were inferior for the job. I struggled getting them in as deep as they needed to go, even with pilot holes drilled, and stripped out the head on several. I had to substitute other screws to complete the installation. I am happy with the finished product, but the screws could have been sturdier and easier to use.

I wanted this for the wall next to our hot tub. I'm older and have mobility issues. Getting in and out of the hot tub is a challenge with nothing to hold onto. This attached into the wall and folds up out of the way when not in use. It's sturdy, and now I can use the hot tub without assistance from anyone else. What a great feeling of independence!! (Note: my husband did have to purchase different anchors since we put it into brick and not into wall studs.)

High quality grab bar and nice peened finish on grab area. The screws supplied, while long enough to penetrate 1/2 inch drywall and into studs or "2 x" blocking in wall, have a phillips head. There is no possible way to drive the screw into the wood studs because a phillips bit will just "cam out" of the screw head. I tried pre-drilling the hole (not too big of diameter) to help and put some soap on the screw threads. But still, "cam out" occurred before I could get the screw all the way in. I ditched the supplied screws and used star head drive deck screws with a small washer under the head (because the slot in the flange was maybe a little wide for those type of flat head screws.) Using a cordless drill and a star bit, I had no issues driving the screws home. Be careful not drive it too far in so as to crush the drywall! My recommendation to Moen is to get a little wiser about the type of screws provided with these. Changing the screw type wouldn't cost hardly anything more. The installers would be much appreciative of this

I looked at several grab bars including medical grade.I purchased 11 bars of varying sizes. I chose these because they are Preen which is rougher surface for easy grip. They also have covered set screws. Please note the screws that are included with the bars are to short. You need to buy your screws separately for security. The round cover for the screws does not fit tight but does cover adequately.

Highly recommend. We installed this for my 96 year old mother. She needs the support to get on and off the toilet but the toilet is so close to the tub she could not get in the tub with the handicap toilet seats. This raises and lowers so it can be moved out to the way. Perfect. You will need to be sure it is secured to a stud. Since there was not a stud where we needed it, we simply nailed a long board to the studs and then secured the grab bar to the board.

I have wanted one of these in our shower for so long. It only takes one episode of feeling weak or a slip of the foot to turn into a major emergency. Having this grab bar gives a sense of steadiness and safety, especially if you are also using a shower seat. I can't take credit for the installation, however, I know it took less than 30 minutes using the screws. I love that it was available in different sizes and colors/finishes. We chose the white and it fits right in with our white tub and shower curtain. I also purchased the 9 inch grab bar and positioned it so you can hold onto it getting in and out of the tub.

I used the grab bar in tub/shower. The finish and quality of the product is excellent and nicely matches existing Moen polished brass hardware in the bathroom. Item was attached to ceramic tile wall, backed by plaster and concrete board. I found the supplied 2" screws a bit short for attaching to wood wall studs, so I went to 3" #10 screws. I would highly recommend using a 3/16" carbide tip drill for a ceramic tile application ...as opposed to the recommended 1/8" drill size which is too small. Only reason for not giving this product a 5-star rating is the Escutcheon Ring ...when pressed against the wall, it loosely fits. The problem is easily remedied by applying a small amount of clear silicon caulk behind the top 1/2 backside of the escutcheon. Overall, I highly recommend the product ... worth the cost.

I have MS and this work wonderfully between my walk-in shower. Dual purpose grab bars on all four sides of shower and it stores up against wall if not in use, is an additional support when when toilet is to close for example a traditional toilet safety shape bar unit that fits over the toilet and boxes you in or won't fit between a toilet and cabinet.

Purchased this for my 84 year old grandmother who was having balance and arthritis issues to help her step into and out of the shower. She absolutely loves it, has made a huge difference in her safety while bathing. My boyfriend (who work construction) installed it, and it took him all of 5 minutes, super easy and secure when attached to a stud. My grandmothers physical and occupational therapists also loved it. Great product, function and it looks very nice in her bathroom. She was very concerned about her bathroom looking like “an old person bathroom” but the product is sleek and professional looking. Definitely recommend!

The grab bar is SOLID stainless steel. Replacing it was a breeze - the screws fit perfectly in the wall where the other grab bar was positioned for 10 years. Ironically - 10 years ago we installed a more expensive grab bar - yet in time it failed. The grab bar we replaced was layered with a plastic looking coating that eventually peeled off. We are very pleased with this new solid stainless steel grab bar. Should have paid less 10 years ago for a superior product.

First, you must locate two studs to install securely and for safety. If you cannot locate then hire a professional. After locating the studs, i applied masking tape on the wall so I could layout the holes. Unit is 18 inches but studs were 12 in apart, so I installed at an angle. You can install vertically if desired onto one stud. I have tile, so I patiently but firmly drilled holes big enough that the screw would fit through because I did not want to crack the tile when tightening.i drilled six holes, stopping after each one to check the next hole location before drilling the next. My rating is 4 stars because the polished brass color is close to a 14k gold color. It does not look bad, but the color is not the same as the polished brass fixtures throughout the bath.
