First impressions of a new install

First, apologies for the formatting not allowing for paragraph breaks. Ok, this island range hood was installed near a wall due to peculiars of the ducting, where otherwise most people would install a wall mounted hood. But overall happy with the look. Not sure if I made the right model choice though. It's probably too powerful. and definitely too loud. I seed a pyramid shaped island hood from Cosmo on lowes with 380 CFM and lower wattage for only $375 vs the (eek) $800 I paid for this. Not sure if it's accurate or not but some online threads said Zline is a rebrand of Cosmo. Main point is that it's too loud AND I would appreciate if the fan had an even lower setting than 1. Thus I guess a less powerful fan overall would've been the move (I kinda thought 400 CFM was standard to being in the low side already). It's important to NOTE that I also had to convert the ducting for this to 4". Zline is actually easy to call and talk to helpful humans, so points for that, and they confirmed the ducting reduction is possible with understanding suction and noise will be degraded--to what degree depending on the install details. So YES this will increase the noise. My ducting goes up about a foot into an elbow and then a foot laterally to outside. So a relatively short run for an island mount with one 90 degree turn which gave me confidence it's fine. The DB is 65 for the lowest setting and then 75 at the max setting. with 4 settings total. (I'll probably never go past 1). I can't imagine that my ducting reduction/conversion would add anything like 10db of noise, but let's say it did, even 55 for the lowest setting is still too loud. You'll find other reviews complain about noise too. You'll also read complaints about the manual being terrible and it is. No real specs or detailed exploded view of this model. Generic model install instructions for wall mounted or island mounted. Also even the specs listed on this product page are incorrect. It describes it as a pyramid hood, so I'm not sure if everything is incorrect or just a few things, but one thing I can verify is that this actually has TWO light settings(high and low) which is greatly appreciated actually. So in that sense it's being undersold. But I would appreciate the REAL specs in the manual at least, like the wattage and other details and even panel operation (I eventually learned to press the clock button to have it blink the number 3 for a 3 minute shutoff timer; ok but can we adjust this timer??)The stainless steel is a nice grade (smooth grain), so looks relatively high end, versus cheaper grainy or streaky stainless steel. During install we learned that this hood has controls on both the front AND back (maybe standard for island mount) and that the ducting is NOT dead center like some other hoods. This actually negatively affected our install. It's offset relative to the front and back (not side to side). But in short, probably too powerful for my needs, definitely too loud, maybe too expensive (versus a a couple alternatives), good American staffed product support, bad literature and spec details, good looking and seemingly well built. Just do your homework.

Great hood

Beautiful and functional island range hood. This was a replacement from an earlier island range so installation was complicated to retrofit it to the existing vent set up. My only issue was the Z-Line "directions" that had insufficient detail for how to actually operate the range hood. The info was buried in the installation manual and unclear. A customer shouldn't have to do web searches to learn how to use the hood's features.

Cheaply built

Purchased range hood recently and soon after we installed it the led lights quit working. We contacted zline and they sent a new light ki we have to install in which is a real pain to have to do. We did not install the new kit yet, we hope it resolves the problem. Overall doesn’t seem that well built. We do like the aesthetics of it.

Venthood

Vent hood is flimsy and difficult to install due to weak construction of hood. Would not recommend this hood due to the difficult installation.

Good unit for the price

This is early experience with this 42 inch hood installed as a replacement to a similar hood that had failed located over a kitchen island. So far so good. Nice lighting, looks good, and price was favorable. Fan does make more noise than the unit it replaced. Lowest speed is only speed we use for any duration due to noise. Installation over an existing island is a bear (3 people required) but that's no fault of the unit.

The hood looks great above our island range! Very nice looking, love the lights and works great to pull out cooking odors. I don't know if it is louder than other hoods.

Great, excellent, smart and sleek

I bought this equipment in July of this year after having reviewed a lot of other island range hoods, but I went for this one, and have not regretted it, compliments from all my friends visiting me!!!!

Excellent product. I just wished it would have been easier to find someone to install it. Home Depot needs to offer installation on this product.

Overall it is a good venting hood. Wish have a little higher cfm and using diverting construction for recirculating feature.

Sleek

Worked out great, especially with a tall 9'4" ceiling. Client and I both love the sleek design and the slimmer profile since it's attached to the ceiling over an island. It is being used ductless in a penthouse with cement ceilings. Nothings been cooked yet but I'm hoping it works well to recirculate smoke. We lowered it with another 12" piece than in the picture.

This is beautiful. I feel so fortunate to have this in my kitchen.
