Working as described
I've only owned this toaster for a month and it seems to work fine. I replaced a major brand toaster that was junk with cheap plastic levers that broke when toasting. So far it seems to work and I like the toaster retracks and returns with the push of a button. Not sure if this is a weak point so I purchased a three year insurance policy from Amazon.
Good toaster but over priced
I just have to say this, this is way over priced. I did buy this thinking it would feel superior, and it feels sturdy and functions well, but in the end it is simply a toaster. It should cost more than some but there is no justification for the price. Every time I have to pull the toast out with my fingers or tongs, I think of how much I paid and it doesn't even lift the toat up to reach it easier.
Love this toaster
I put up with uneven toasting for so long and am now enjoying my toast again. You need to do some experimenting with different types of bread to know the right setting for each kind. Then you get perfect toast. I love the lift and look and a little more settings as well. It’s a great toaster.
Just not a good toaster!!
Bought this when our little Kitchen Aid finally wore out after many years. We liked the look and all the features of the Breville. And thought we could expect excellence and many years out of this one because it's supposed to be a high end brand and Williams Sonoma sells it, so it should be great! But, no. We had the toaster for just a couple weeks over 1 year. (Of course, the warranty was for 1 year!) One day, the outer coils just stopped working! We now have to use the Bagel mode and put the toast through once and the turn it around and put it through again. No, thank you. So disappointed. Won't buy Breville again and won't bother buying a toaster at WS, either.
First Month Using This Toaster
Overall love the look and features of this toaster - particularly the "Lift and Look" and "A Bit More" functions. My only complaint is that the inner side of what's being toasted gets a little darker than the outer side resulting in an uneven toast. That said, however, getting the darkness setting just right, you can still enjoy a well heated slice of toast.
The little toaster that could....
These are not the heavy duty toasters of the past from Breville, but so far it is operating as expected. I am hoping it holds up like my last 2 slice smart toaster did (which was excellent), but I am not holding my breath. I bought this one because I liked my last one so much, and I generally have had good customer service experiences with Breville. On another note, I highly recommend the hot water pots for tea. I use both the toaster and hot water pot daily and cannot get along without them.
Disappointed
We had relatively good success, then the bread holder on one side got off its track and did not fully come up. Eventually you could use one side of the toaster, but if you used the Lift and Look button, the side that worked just started going up and down and would not stop until you hit the cancel button.
The smart toaster two slice.
We have enjoyed our smart toaster for
Needs improvement
I've had this toaster for over a year. Three months in I was ready to get rid of it, but not for the reasons you may think. The toaster works well when used on the appropriate settings -- bagels on the bagel setting etc. My primary issue the fact that it is very difficult to clean this toaster. The slide-out crum collector is great, however, the crumbs get caught on the sides and are very difficult to remove. In some cases the toast does not pop up and the toaster needs to be unplugged to reset. For the money, it really should be close to all-around perfection.
Great for two years only.
I bought this toaster two years ago trusting the Breville name for its quality. The toaster worked well and is fun with its variety of 'smart' buttons (frozen breads, a bit more toasting, etc). I am not a heavy user of toasters, less than twice a week and so I was surprised today when the toaster tripped all of my wall outlets and I saw that the two inner toasting elements died. The product warranty is only one year and this is not an inexpensive toaster. I am disappointed in this product and will not buy it again. Very disappointing.
Perfect initially!
I have had this toaster for under 3 years. The inside elements no longer work and the outside elements are about 50% efficient. I purchased this toaster because of it’s recommendation from Consumers Reports and Williams Sonoma. I wish I had read the reviews here first. I attempted to contact Breville and my email was blocked. Please help me to understand how I can resolve this issue.
Rising problem
I received this toaster as a graduation gift 2 years ago, at first it worked great, it toasts evenly over all it was an amazing gift. Recently the rising is not working at all and all the lights will blink and a clicking noise will happen, I have to unplug from the power outlet and dig out the toast with a fork. Every once in a while it will work like normal but rest assure it will eventually not return my toast.
Breville, Good but not perfect.
Our reliable old toaster from 1995, crapped out. We have tried several others that were awful, finally gave the Breville a try. It is better than most in terms of even toasting and features, but not perfect. Love the "A Bit More" button. For some reason, current toasters have a weakness in terms of even heating throughout all the heating elements. The Breville is also quite powerful.
Nice upgraded toaster
I like all the upgrades and the digital enhancements. This is high-tech. I’ve only used it once. I did have to keep putting the bread back in the toaster to get it darker. I don’t know if it was just not regulating it properly. But so far I love it, I would highly recommend it. It is a little pricey. I would say if you could get it on sale or have some rewards that would be a better deal.
Was a great toaster until it wasn't
This was an absolutely wonderful toaster for two years. It toasted to perfection and I thought the "a bit more" feature was priceless. It was only used a couple of times per month, but just prior to the two year mark, the heating elements malfunctioned which resulted in bread being toasted on only one side. Only a few remain operational, so I imagine we are at the end of the road. I certainly didn't expect a $160 toaster to last only two years, especially since I'm not using it to serve toast at Mel's Diner. Naturally, there is only a one year warranty, which is disheartening. Sadly, it's time to purchase a new toaster, but I think I'll be back at the big box store acquiring the old school, $19.99 special in lieu of dropping nearly two C notes at Crate and Barrel.
Good but not excellent
A lot of nice features, but one side toasts browner than the other. Really not what I expected for the money spent. I have to rotate the bread half way through the cycle to get an evenly toasted slice of bread. This I have to do so my wife doesn’t realize I spent this kind of money on a toaster that really isn’t that much better than one $100 less! 😳
Excellent toaster until it stopped working
We loved this toaster for 6 years, until it stopped working and started tripping the GFCI outlets in my kitchen. It's a premium toaster built like a tank with great features. We really wanted to buy another one for those reasons but chose not to because we won't spend that type of money for a product that won't last. I always try to repair my appliances rather than throw them away. I'm willing to pay for a quality product and while this Breville toaster seemed to be one, it ceased to be when it broke so soon. After reading other reviews, I see a lot of problems with this toaster and the broken electronics after such a short time.
Love this toaster!
This toaster does an amazing job of toasting 1 to 4 slices of bread perfectly. All our bread is homemade and has thicker slices, which this toaster accommodates nicely. Love the smart features also. I was tired of buying a new toaster every year. Thank you Breville for designing an appliance that actually does what it’s supposed to do and looks pretty handsome on my countertop. Also the longer size is space saving too!
Breville does it again
I buy Breville products because they work as described, are well made and look great. This toaster is no exception. It is the first toaster I’ve owned that actually toasts bread, English muffins, bagels and sourdough perfectly. No burned edges, no areas not toasted and lets you see the progress both on the front panel and lets you take a look. The bit more feature is my favorite as it also allows the toast to keep warm if you want. I highly recommend.
Great gift! Nice way to start your day.
I bought this as a gift from a wedding registry. I was wowed looking at all the great features (addressing things that cross your mind with the toasters of old) . The recipients loved it! The said it is great! Best ever. I was impressed with all it could do.
