Excellent knife sharpener
This sharpener has been the most effective I have ever owned! Bought one for my mother too as she loved how well mine worked. Will be giving this as a Christmas present to a friend this year too 😁
Great knife shapener.
Having only ever getting my knives sharpened professionally, I wasn't confident this was going to work well. I was pleasantly surprised at how easy to use and the sharpness of my knives was perfect. Big thank you to the staff member who helped me choose this one. One of my favorite buys.
Review of MinoSharp 222/PW - Set of 2 Ceramic Wheels for SH-220
The proof of the pudding will be how the ceramic sharpener wheels perform over time. The purchase was made to replace a wheel which had broken! Use once so so far so good.
Consistent 5 star service and products. The only place we visit for kitchenware.
Hi. I didn't need to write this - because I wrote it three years ago in a Google review:
be careful of the very sharp knives
I've always worked in restaurants & admired how chefs paid such attention to keeping their tools sharp.
Sharp knives
It's good at keeping my knives sharp and but isn't great for restoring the edge on a dull knife. The edge it produces is very nice and I keep accidentally slicing bits of my sponge off.
Perfect for the global knives
I bought this with the global Osaka knives and it is an amazing little knife sharpener. Simple and easy to use and really leaves your knives sharp!
Pro tip: remember that you have just sharpened your knives!
Global Minosharp Ceramic Sharpener worked a treat on some rather blunt knives in my knife block. So easy to use and simple to clean. Having two sets of grinding discs makes for a good finish, and the instructions are clear.
Best sharpener so far……
Have a draw full of knife sharpeners I don’t use all claiming to be the best.
Fantastic. Sharpens to professional standards.
I am really surprised at how fantastic this sharpener is. I'm a chef by trade and I have tried many sharpeners over the years but not one is as good as this one. It saves me a lot of time but not having to use a stone. The sharpener is small enough to fit in my knife case too.
Great sharpener — easy to use and makes a huge instant difference. According to Global Knives themselves, you can’t sharpen/hone their knives using a normal ‘steel’, as Global blades are too delicate compared with European knives (which I learned too late, of course). Rectified the situation with this sharpener, and they’re back to razor blades again :-)
Great product!
I'm very happy with this purchase - I've never used a knife sharpener before (and thought they must be a complicated business!) but this is super simple and straightforward to use. Has sharpened up a very blunt Global knife that's been sitting at the back of my kitchen drawer for years. Super fast shipping from Everten, even during the height of the Syd/Melb lockdowns.
Having a few Global knives, they had become a bit blunt even with the use of a steel and the occassional run over a whet stone I must have got the angle wrong. Anyway, I decided to give the Minosharp a shot given the majority of reviews are very good.I have discovered with little pressure, beyond the weight of the knife itself, that the blades are practically as good as they were brand new. A vast improvement and far easier than messing around with a whet stone. For those that have complained the rollers have broken, I can only assume that theyve been putting a great deal of pressure on the knife, which is definitely not required. Follow the instructions supplied ie, one finger along the top of the blade and you will get superb results.
Minosharp Knife Sharpener
I was bought a set of global cooking knifes very extravagent for a birthday present a few years back. I had tried a number of ways to keep them sharp, and whilst this does not sharpen them quite as much as when they arrived, this is so simple to use that the small loss in sharpness is more than compensated for, by being able to sharpen the knifes in seconds. I can only speak for my Global Knifes but these do a great job of keeping them sharp. One of the ceramic wheels broke and the replacement was pretty much the same cost as buying the new unit, so it was a no brainer for me to buy these again. You wont disappointed.
Product came as advertised and in quick time, well within the estimated time. I bought this knife sharpener because it is recommended for Global knives and is supposed to sharpen them at the right angle. The product is easy to use and comes with course and medium ceramic discs, although most cook shops sell spares, so you can change this to medium and fine if you wish. It is very effective and sharpened my knives quickly and easily but word of warning, do not press on the knives as you run them through the the sharpener, this will damage the ceramic discs and also your knives. Excellent product and would recommend.
We were lucky enough to have received some Global knives when we got married in 2013. After almost a year of daily use, the blades were still sharp, but not as sharp as they once were. After some research looking at recommendations of whet stones, I decided to purchase this.Problem with whetstones is that you need to hold the knife at a 1015 degree angle which Im sure is really difficult to maintain. If you dont sharpen at that angle, you are more than likely going to damage the blade, which when you consider that you wont be sharpening the knives that often when you consider how much Global knives cost, not something you want to do.The Global knives website recommends the Minosharp for home use.Simply pop open the plastic casing, fill the container with water pop the lid back onRun your knife forwards and backwards a few times you DONT need to use excessive force to get your knives back to an excellent condition. The shape of the ceramic stones the slots in the plastic cover ensure that you maintain that 1015 degree angle that is so important not to damage your knives. The rubber grip on the handle makes it easier to hold.Sure the Minosharp might not look as pretty as the Global branded ceramic whetstone do a google search it looks like a gold bar has an RRP of almost 165 but its going to be left in a kitchen drawer until you need it.A really good purchase for the price can thoroughly recommend to keep your expensive knives in tip top condition.
Compact and easy to use, this will keep your knives good and sharp. rubber on the handle and on the under side at the heel and toe help it to stay put when in use. It is not very big and easily fits in my kitchen pretty standard kitchen draws.I have used this to sharpen different knives, including a Global, having previously used a whetstone, this is much easier Although there is something enjoyable about sharpening a knife on a whetstone. However, I also bought a brand new Global knife and compared the sharpness of my Minosharp sharpened Global to the brand new one. The brand new on was a lot sharper my test being can I shave the back of my hand with the knife. I expect this is because the ceramic stones inside are the course and medium stones, as opposed to the 3 stone version which also has the fine stones. If the stones break int he future I will probably try to replace them with the medium and fine stones not sure if that will work but worth a go i reckon.
I destroyed my favourite kitchen knife of 20 years by using a cheap knife sharpener. The cheap sharpener had jagged and totally blunted the edge, It was a toss up between a new knife or one last try to sharpen it using the Mino. FANTASTIC result, my favourite knife is where it belongs, in my knife rack and not the rubbish bin. My knife was that bad it did take around 40 passes on the white coarse wheel to get it back into shape then a few passes on the pink wheel and it is razor sharp again.Be gental with your knife pushing it back and forth over the wheels, No pressure needed. It is well worth the money and half the price of a resonable 200mm kitchen knife.
Great sharpening
I’d bought one of these about 18 years ago and used it regularly to sharpen various Global knives. Then the wheels went blunt. Not being able to gind the correct replacement wheels, and only a few more pounds extra, a new sharpener seemed more sensible. As ever it arrived very quickly from Harts. Knives are all razor sharp again! Brilliant sharpening.
Global Sharpener is simple to use and works well.
This knife sharpener's clever design lets inexperienced people sharpen their knives very well. Other knife sharpeners are excellent but require skill and practice to use correctly, but this one is easy to use. This sharpener is designed for the extremely hard edges of a Global knife. Global knives are edge hardened to around 60HRc which is very hard and makes using a normal steel straightener time consuming. Global knives really need sharpening stones to maintain their edges. I am very good at sharpening knives but others in the house are not, so I bought this for them to be able to maintain a great edge on all our knives when I am not around to sharpen them. My Global knives are 20 years old and this sharpener has put the correct angles back onto the edge for me in a really simple and easy to use way. This sharpener has coarse and medium grit stones so I finish my knives with a fine ceramic "steel" rod to get that really sharp finish. There is another model with 3 stones which may be better if you don't already have a fine ceramic "steel". This 2 stone model will do a good job without any further edge finishing if you are not as fussy as I am. I recommend this for any Global knife owner as it is easy and fast to use and will keep your knives in top condition.
