I love this cooler best one on the market
We use this in our backyard in the Las Vegas heat. 117% right now. This cooler cools the air down making it comfortable to sit on our porch. We have very hard water so the water pump goes out every couple of years. Easy fix. Just to keep it cool outside i have a spare cooler if the water pump goes out so i can replace the pump at my convenience.
Great evaporative cooler for small homes.
I live in a small house (250 sq. ft) and it was tough to find an appropriately sized evaporative cooler. After many days of research, I decided on the Hessaire MC18M. I found that Sylvane had the best price and after reading actual customer reviews (on both the company and the product), I knew I it was time to buy. The cooler arrived very quickly and in great shape. I was able to put this product in my window after making a shelf and it has worked really well since (inside they work best when they are able to draw outside air and vent air out another open window). The fan isn't overly loud (low fan setting) and I would guess it goes through about a gallon an hour in dry desert air (SW New Mexico) above 90 degrees. I have had zero issues so far after a good month or so of using it. The materials used seem decent enough and the design is pretty straightforward and simple. The only issue I have had so far is when pouring water in the side door, make sure to pour it slowly or it will splash out...the opening could have been a little bigger. I have not tried the hose connection yet since it is in my window and indoors. It has saved my dog and I from the relentless and intense summer heat that still continues. I hope this cooler will last for many years to come.
I Love, Love This Unit!
I've been using the unit for fan only until today. And what, may you ask, is different about today? Well, here in the SW U.S., all of a sudden it started to get very hot and very low humidity. About an hour ago, I added approx 2 gallons of water and turned the unit on. Holy Toledo! I cannot believe the coolness in my office area. Yes, I'm in love with this unit! I probably shouldn't mention my disappointment with other brands; but I'll do it anyway. Prior to this, I had two Honeywell units. The problems with those were twofold. First, the units themselves were nowhere near the size of this Hessaire, which has a very large area that the moistened air blows from. Then, the biggest problem with the Honeywell's were that there was absolutely no way of getting in and cleaning the tank area. Now, I don't have that problem and am so, so happy. Thanks to the manufacturer for engineering the unit to be successfully usable and cleanable!
Very satisfied
I purchased this for my dog that loves being outside but not smart enough to know, 95% is too hot! This was my first purchase through Sylvane and it won't be my last. Shipping was very fast and I like that they offer brand name products at a GREAT price. Consumers need to know, "Evaporative Air Cooler" is a swamp cooler and not meant for indoor use without adequate ventilation. These are great for an outdoor patio or open door garage, etc. If the room is enclosed, this will make it miserable humid.
Hessaire Highly Recommended
I love my Hessaire MC18M. I wish I had known about these units a long time ago. Summer is quickly approaching and this unit blows so wonderfully on my patio near my pool. I won't be sweating away like olden days with this Hessaire. Got another one for the near the garage when my son cooks on the grill. Great product and thank you Sylvane!
Very happy with the purchase of this evaporative air cooler!
Very happy with the purchase of this Hessaire evaporative air cooler!
Great economical cooling for hot, dry climates.
I m bought two in July for indoor cooling after owning the same model a few years ago. Awesome cooling unit that has been effective in dropping the temp for a 20'x20' bedroom with unissued, vaulted ceilings. Using an infrared thermometer, I measured the evening air being drawn into the unit at 76F. The air coming out of the unit was 61F into an 89F hot room. It dropped the room about 10 degrees in a couple hours.
Happy with Hessaire
This medium sized swamp cooler arrived today and it's working just fine. My place is 425 square feet, and its much cooler in here than using a fan. The high desert is mostly hot and dry, making a swamp cooler invaluable. i have a small one through the wall, but it doesn't filter out smoke from people on the patio. This Hessaire is surprisingly effective. I was so surprised that it can hold about five gallons of water. It sounds like a small waterfall on a garden water feature, quite pleasant. On medium with pump, the air reaches all the way across my 20 foot wide space. It's not super cold, but its doing a good job against the 100 degree heat out here. I think if i refrigerate the water, it might blow a little cooler. So far, I'm happy with this cooler.
Nicely made, Nice features, Effective Cooler Media
I'm a big fan (no pun intended) of evaporative coolers. I have whole house evaporative coolers on my Nevada and California homes. They work well in "dry" climates, and can reduce air temperatures by 30℉ when outdoor temps are high and humidity low. In my career I have extensive experience in ventilation and air quality measurements. I have used that perspective to evaluate the Hessaire unit.
If you live in a dry climate, this is a must
Incredible evaporative cooler. I use it right now in the winter as a humidifier and for the white noise to fall asleep. It has a soothing trickling sound. Unfortunately I've read from some people the pumps tend to go out on these. I've not had an issue yet but I try to prevent it from running dry. Mold and bacterial buildup can be an issue if you don't drain it and let it dry out occasionally. It's not too easily accessible to clean the inside unless you disassemble it. Also, it does tend to go thorough water quickly but these are minor things. If you live in a humid climate summer, I wouldn't count on this to cool you off although it does blow cool humid air. It's better for dry climates. I'm thinking of buying another, I highly recommend it if you live in a dry climate.
Best cooling device for dry hot weather!
This is my third Hessaire Cooler purchase. It's replacing another one I had that kept leaking so I've retired it to outdoor use. This one has a strong fan and cools very well in dry hot temperatures which are common in southern California. With increasing energy costs this fan is the perfect solution for hot weather. The size is perfect for a bedroom or office especially when whole house cooling is not needed. The added humidity in the air it brings is great for my skin too! The one thing I wish this had is a timer but the size is perfect and much easier to move around than the larger one I had before. I haven't cleaned this unit yet so I don't know how easy it will be. My previous model was a little difficult to take apart.
Better than expected in humid climate
I use the Hessaire MC18M near the Texas coast to provide spot cooling for rabbits in a well ventilated barn. I was skeptical about using evap coolers in such a humid environment, but another rabbit breeder’s success prompted me to give it a try. I chose the smallest model because of the price and because it was portable enough that I could put it where I needed it. I put the cooler’s output a few inches from the cage and see a 10-15 F drop between the ambient air temp and the output air without any dampness. I have since bought two more from another retailer. I wish they offered them in my local store.
Ran Cool but many negative aspects
This unit was too loud for indoors. The unit uses a significant amount of water. Close to 5 gallons to fill. The fill spout is completely non functional. It's very small which allows only a small amount of water unless you pour from a bucket. The unit does Allow for ice packs so you have to use a lot of water. the two stars are because it did cool the room by about 5 degrees. The air was cooler than a regular fan. I returned the unit to my local hardware store which was a very difficult thing to do. The two franchises in my town seemed to know nothing about returning an online product to their store end it took a lot of begging and persuading for them to follow through on what was promised online
Great for RV use
Purchased this to cool a 30ft fifth wheel that we live in. Currently in northern Idaho where outside temps tend to be 95 degrees. This cools the air to around 77 degrees using the low fan setting. It's placed such that it takes suction from an open window in the living room. The vent in the bedroom is left with the fan on low and this creates air movement throughout the trailer. The bedroom is actually comfortable at bedtime.
Satisfied
Using the product in Colorado. Very good blowing power. I use the evaporative portion to boost cooling things off when it's quite hot. After
Very happy, then disappointed.
Was very impressed when I first use it. But found out there are quite a few design flaws, which make this unit rather inconvenient to use. This is like a design from decades ago when timer and remote are uncommon on appliance.
Hessaire MC18M is superior to an outside evaporati
The Hessaire MC18M works perfectly to keep the room cool. This cooler is easy to set up. Just take it out of the box and fill with water. The cardboard honeycomb pads last a long time. We have been using Hessaire evaporative coolers for a couple of years now and would not use anything else. The Hessaire MC18M is easier to maintain than an outside evaporative cooler. Every year we had to replace the straw pads, the motor would go out, the pump would get clogged and eventually the sides rusted away. With Hessaire there is none of that.
It's a great cooler if you live in the desert
This evaporative air cooler is the best I've found so far. The actual blower is quiet and strong, the trickling water sound is fairly noticeable however, although it doesn't bother me personally because I need white sound to fall asleep and it's more like a water stream sound. The product is light (about 20 lbs) but it's big and awkward and next to impossible to lift with 5 gallons water, to which alleviation it comes with wheels and a top handle to make it portable.
Cools My Garage in Palm Springs Once I Provided Air Flow
I bought this to cool my garage in Palm Springs where summer temperatures reach 120 degrees. It took a while to tweak the garage to make the Hessaire MC18M work quite well. Here is what happened. At first, I put it in the garage and all it did was increase the humidity to around 99% with no reduction in temperature (failure #1.) Then I installed an electric attic fan at the top of the vaulted garage to vent the humidity. It did but the air was still not appreciably lowered (failure #2.) I realized that there was inadequate air INTAKE to keep up with the exhaust fan and, thus, there was not enough air FLOW to circulate the air, keep the humidity down and still provide the cooling effect. So I tried leaving the garage door opened about 4 inches from the floor and, voila, that did the trick. I needed to supply enough air FLOW to keep up with the electric attic fan (a very strong one) and opening the garage door 4 inches did exactly what needed to be done. Eventually, I installed a hose bib inside the garage to connect a 3 ft long hose to the Hessaire, plugged it in and now I have a permanent installation. I bought 8 wall vents (with bug screens) from Lowe's for about $4 each, installed them into the garage door and now I do not have to leave my garage door open anymore. Air enters the garage through the 8 vents and is blown out by the electric attic fan at the top of the garage and the Hessaire provides the evaporative cooling to keep the garage about 10-15 degrees cooler than outside which is great because the garage used to be 20-30 degrees hotter than outside. This Hessaire does the job inside a 2 car garage in the desert. I had to experiment (and learn) about air flow and evaporative cooling principles but, in the end, I successfully cool my garage all day and night now. The fact that this Hessaire has a hose connection is really important because it only holds about 6 hours of water in the tank and I would not want to manually fill the tank 4 times a day.
Great product. Would buy again!
What needful item this is during the hottest summer heat! We are glad that we ordered this before the temps started to soar. In Northern California we have an arid climate which means that a swamp cooler works great to not only cool the air down but also add some moisture to it at the same time. We are using the Hessair indoors in a two bedroom apartment as a supplemental ac unit. The unit has been working great. It sounds like an aquarium when the ac is running with the water dripping down the substrate. It's a relaxing sound to us so not much issue with that. Like that it has different settings, is on castor wheels, and has a handle. There is a learning curve to keeping it from smelling musty. There are instructions online from Hessair that are very helpful on cleaning the unit and reducing any odors. It is important to have the fan only running after use for the specified thirty minutes to dry out the material.
