Cycles on and off
I bought this because I need my ac to be running all night or I wake up sweaty and irritable. When this A.C. unit reaches room temp it cycles off and stops blowing all together. If the fan would keep blowing I wouldn't be returning it but the whole thing turns on and off. I bought this in store and a month later I'm returning it. I thought I could handle it but not with it getting hotter. It is programed to cycle on and off per customer service. Crap product, bulky and doesn't work right.
Not CooL
Simple to assemble, very good looking product. WiFi connection and app don’t function consistently. Had to put device on 60 degrees to cool a small room. It worked for 3 days and now it doesn’t blow cool air anymore. Makes me not want to buy anything LG anymore. I set for 60 degrees and the room is 80 degrees. Very loud also, even though I don’t mind the noise.
I already own and use an LG 6000 BTU window AC, and an 8000 BTU LG portable unit that both heats and cools. I am very pleased with these two units and would recommend them, but the 8000 BTU LG portable AC I just received last month, not so much. The cold air is deflected straight up towards the ceiling where all the hot air is. I adjusted the "swing" so the air would deflect lower into the room but that results in an annoying whistling sound and won't cool my 14X14 ft. room below 88 degrees when it is 100 degrees outside. I tried an experiment cooling my room down to 76 degrees using the window AC, then shut it off and immediately turned on this unit. Within 30 minutes the room temp rose to 84 degrees. It eventually came back down to 80 degrees but no lower. The outside temperature was 96 degrees and holding during this experiment. Save your money and buy a window AC unit.
Waste of time and money
Our AC in our house went out, we tried fixing it ourselves but we decided to get portable AC unit instead. We got this product not even 24 hours ago and had to return it. We ran that thing in all night and it was not blowing out cold air. Instead it was blowing out hot air from outside. Very disappointed in this brand and will never ever purchase an LG product again. People are desperate to get a small amount of cool air and LG has the audacity to put a product out that doesn’t even work.
Portable Unit Stopped Cooling after just 11 months
Worked great Summer 2022, used for just 2 months. Went to use this Summer and stopped cooling. Compressor is running, you can hear it. However it's blowing warm air. Reached out to LG to file a warranty claim....have yet to hear back. Now it's after the 1 yrs warranty period, so I am not sure how to handle this. I may have to file an extended warranty claim on the credit card. Either way, it's not acceptable for a $500 A/C unit to stop working after just 2 months.
Works well, but it's louder than I hoped!
I use this portable AC to cool a 15x20 ft room with 11.5 ft. ceiling on the 5th floor of my office building. It cools the room very well in a fairly short period of time, so I have been very pleased with that. The set up in the window was a little more complicated than I would've liked, but, honestly, I can't see how LG could improve upon this given the diverse types of windows and specific dimensions. My husband and I figured out a pretty good system for making it fit and securing it, but be prepared to be creative if you have anything other than a super standard window opening. The reason I gave the LG 3 stars is because the unit is so much louder than I would've liked. I am a bodywork professional and there are times I can't comfortably converse with my client because the unit is so loud. I've made my peace with it, but I wouldn't buy it again for use in this setting given the noise.
Works well
Keeps room comfortable. We have it in a larger area then the size dictates that it should. It's covering an open living room with vaulted ceiling, kitchen and dinette. It keeps the area comfortable. Easy install and the fact they give you all the insulation you need. These types of units are not the best option. they are not the most efficient. A window unit is a much better option keeping all of the heat outside. I understand they are a compromise, easier to install, no heavy lifting, screen can be left down so less bugs etc. Because of the way these are built, I believe that in AC mode they remove less humidity then your regular window unit. I can't speak for the Dehumidify mode which I am not using But I have used them all and the window units are more efficient and remove more humidity. We had central AC but it is shot and to expensive to repair right now so if you don't want to deal with the window unit like me because I'm getting older or you don't want the fuss, this LG will do the job.
NEEDS A DRAIN HOSE
The instructions say this only needs a drain hose on dry mode. The back of the unit says it hose for DRY MODE ONLY.
UPDATED REVIEW. . .
So I had posted a review previously and was on the fence about returning but have decided not to.
Exceeds my expectations for cooling and features. The hose kit leaves a lot to be desired. 5 stars for the AC; 2 stars for the hose venting kit
This is the 2nd portable AC I've ever owned, and by far much quieter and more powerful than one I had 10 years ago. It cools my 10x20 home office rapidly and efficiently, with not nearly as much noise as the previous one. I was able to have phone conversations with this unit 3 feet away from me. The remote is very nice and convenient.
