[Rewarded Review] interior parts are plastic
I wanted a "bare bones" heavy duty sewing machine, and I picked this one over the Janome for a couple of minor details: on the Janome, if you remove the extension table, the arm is too far back. but if you decide to leave the extension table in place, you have to remove it every time you want to get to the bobbin case. also, I didn't like that the reverse switch was so far off to the right. minor details, but enough to make me choose the Singer.
Singer 4452 Heavy Duty...It's good.
I have owned this machine for a few weeks. I am a beginner at sewing. I like the machine. It is easy to put thread on a bobbin. It is somewhat difficult to thread the bobbin correctly when putting it in the base. Is there an easier way that I don't know about? Used some Coats & Clark Outdoor Thread (very heavy) to sew a waterproof backed fabric through two layers of very thick border. Had to roll the wheel to start by hand. Very difficult puncture. Then foot pedal. Sewed the entire padded two layer border with no issues. Crooked as all get out (I told you I'm new) but that rascal is sewn-up. Seriously, that was a hard test. I give the machine 90 out of 100 for that performance.
Good value for what it is
Machine sews well but noisy. Visual of needle threading and thread guides just before the needle are difficult to see and hard to thread. Sewing for many years so I can deal with this but inconvenient. Limited presser feet and useful stitches. Throat plate markings are hard to find so I put a piece of blue masking tape to guide me.
[Rewarded Review] Decent solid machine
The 4452 is not a bad machine. I own 3 (?)- same model. The latest sale price made it cheaper for me to buy a new one than to bring my other 2 in for maintenance (time was of the essence). This one seems a little "tight". Main issue with this machine is that it is labeled "heavy duty" - does some solid sewing, yet its bobbin case is plastic??? If they could make a solid steel bobbin case for this machine, it would render 10 stars from me. I don't like digital machines with all the bells and whistles and more issues to break down/ deal with. A decent solid machine.
I like it BUT....
I needed a machine that will sew through multiple layers of heavy fabric and this one does sew nice even stitches. However the bobbin winder doesn't work well at all. I had to physically turn the bobbin with my thumb to get any thread on it. I gave up and bought a separate Singer bobbin winder. On my (other brand) sewing machine I can keep sewing and it will fill bobbins at the same time but it wont handle this particular project.
Heavy duty, hits all the marks on my list!
I needed a new machine for straight and zig zag stitching options, as the straight stitch only that I have been using is over 60 years old. I love it, but need more options! This machine hit all the marks! The bonus box of various pressure feet sure sweetened the deal! Love my Singer machines!
Powerful and great value
I bought this a month ago . I love it . I love that the buttons are basic only what is necessary and you don’t need a manual to figure out how to use it. .. and that it has the feature to help thread the needle !!( never had this feature in a machine and can’t live without it now . My son is redoing a motor home and I was able to reupholster all the cushions in it ! It was a breeze. It is powerful and never messed up once . Highly recommend this machine and is an excellent price point!! Also like that it is grey as the white ones tend to yellow after years .
[Rewarded Review] Very Satisfied and Happy 🤗
Loving my new Singer Machine 4452. I am a beginner and learning everyday. This machine is not complicated to use. Has many functions. Many youtube channels that can help with tutorial how to set up and use the machine correctly. Thank you Michael’s for my great deal on buying my very first sewing machine. 🤗
Not Good!
Purchased this machine and I have to get it repaired already. Very disappointed. The sewing needle doesn't lock into position, as I am sewing the needle slides to the left creating an uneven unprofessional seam. Now I have to pay for a repair on a brand new machine. Not good!! Very disappointed.
Easy to get started
Sews nicely and I like the numbering for the needle threading. It seems as though the bobbins for my previous Singer are not going to work on this model so that is a disappointing waste. I had my other machine for over 20 years so I have a lot of bobbins already wound. Also, would really appreciate the option of a paper manual. In the middle of a project, stopping to find something online is tedious.
Singer Heavy Duty 4452
I would have gave this machine 5 stars if the seller would have been honest and said the machine was refurbished. I thought some off with the way the machine was package. So I decided to watch a YouTube unboxing and it was confirmed mines was used. So next time list the machine as refurbished and charged refurbished price, not list as new and charge customers regular price fir a refurbished machine. Now Im skeptical about order another one.
Do Not Buy!
After receiving this new sewing machine, didn't use for two weeks was busy helping my sister. I then preceded to make my new curtains, stopped, to sew the hem the next day. After sewing for 5 minutes, the bobbin thread became stuck on a piece of metal, right in the middle of sewing! I didn't change or do anything different. Took awhile for me to UPLOAD information Singer wanted for the return. Waited on my daughter from out of town for computer help. " 7 Days out of Warranty", they said. After using the machine 2 times! I am very upset.
Disappointed
I bought this machine to hem jeans and sew some small upholstery items. I am so disappointed. It breaks jeans Needles left and right. It won't go through hardly any layers of denim. Very disappointed. It us not the heavy duty work horse I was hopping for. I have had the machine for a year and it only has about 4 or 5 hours on it. I brought it out again today to sew a denim project and I hot so frustrated that I put it back away. I am a avid seamstress and quilter for over 40 years. I have many machines, vikings, brother, baby lock, and Bernia. This singer is going away. So very disappointed.
Good but.... light extremely dim
Good machine. I learned to sew on my mother's 1965 Elna. It basically did what this one does, except the Elna had a metal case, and a light that was good. The LED light on the Singer is a HUGUE step backwards. It may as well be off. You need another light in the room to be able to use the machine. Otherwise, it seems to do all I ask of it. Runs relatively smoothly, controls work as they are supposed to....
Bad feed dog design
I bought this for my wife a short time ago,the first time she used it she lowered the feed dogs and when she went to raise it they wouldn't raise, luckily I found a youtube video of how to get the feed dogs to raise,I had to gain access to the bottom feed dog mechanism and manually push the feed dogs to the up position. I was very close to sending this brand new machine back. Apparently this is a common design flaw with these newer machines and in my opinion there is no excuse for this bad design. Time will tell if this will be a problem in the future or if we run into other problems.I wouldn't recommend this machine to anyone at this point. Singer needs to find a good fix for this.
[Rewarded Review] Down and dirty Buy it New!
i opened the sewing plate where the bobbin sits and I was horrified! this machine was never serviced or by that matter cleaned! the machine was so full of thread and black dust, I never In my sewing life have seen a Old Or Used machine so nasty looking. the plate was missing a screw, it had dirty finger prints! I have 5 machines 1 Singer 4432, and bought this one for grand daughter. 3 embroidery machines and a Surger! I Clean and oil them as needed if i have a big project It gets cleaned after!
Handle Denim like a dream!
This machine is living up to its "HEAVY DUTY" name!!! I made this review for 4 stars as I find the bobbin winding process strange and a challenge to do (this is not my first machine, my first machine was my mom's featherweight singer, but I also have a babylock and a Janome basic machines). Also the threading of the machine is odd & cumbersome and makes a mess of your sewing if off at all. The last step before threading the needle is cumbersome and challending to do.
Poor quality
Was totally excited about the automatic thread option, but the least little thing causes it not to work. Being sold as a “ heavy duty machine” I feel that I should be able to sew over a flat felled seam with ease. But for some reason this thing keeps getting stuck mid stitch. Totally frustrated and over this machine! Guess I’m going back to my old stand by and using the walking foot! Thanks for nothing Singer.
Amazingly perfect!
After getting my 40 year old Singer repaired a few times, it was time to get a new machine. I replaced it with the 4452 model. This machine exceeded my expectations. I sew a lot of denim so this heavy duty machine is perfect! I love the cuff & pant feature! It makes hemming pants so easy! I also do a lot of decorative stitching, and this machine has a wide variety of sizes. Also, another great feature is the needle threader, which I did not have on my old machine. It’s a lifesaver!
[Rewarded Review] Excellent & simple to use.
Excellent & simple to use! Exactly what I wanted. I don't do fancy stitching as I mainly work on horse apparel and equipment I needed a machine to be able to power through the thicker layers & thicker materials and this does it easily. I have recovered English saddle pads, made stove top covers, and stitched up a hole in my jacket pocket with this wonderful machine. I had an old HD Singer (50yrs) and it started to go out of alignment, when I asked around my local repair shops they wanted $120 just to service it, not even to do repairs. This inexpensive machine that you can catch on good sales.
