Installation was relatively simple - plumber was able to do this by themself. Uses pretty standard connections (3/4 inch for cold water input and hot water output). Exhaust has several options! Performance is pretty solid, though a bit on the noisier side.

I like the Rennai 180,000 BTU tankless water heater (indoor, natural gas). It supplies steady flow, constant temperature hot water, and it is far superior in that regard to a circa-2004 model Bosch tankless water heater of similar specifications that the Rennai replaced. I installed the unit myself, and found the instructions detailed and clear for a fairly easy installation.There are two areas where improvement could be made.1) The bottom surface of the tankless water heater unit is fairly generous in size; however, Rennai has crowded the cold-water supply, hot-water out, condensate water out, and pressure relief valve water out pipeline fittings very close together, and it is a bit tricky to make these connections and route the needed pipes to their required sources and destinations. These pipe fittings should be further apart on the bottom of the water heater.2) My Home Depot did not stock or have a floor model of this hot water heater. I ordered the unit online, and delivery to the store required 10 days of cold-water-at-home waiting. Most people really would rather not wait 10 days for a hot water heater, especially for replacement of a failed unit.

Installed the RU180iN myself. I’m not a plumber, but I’m fairly capable having performed many home improvement projects over the years. Because I also replaced all the 70-year-old galvanized water pipes (with all new copper) and replaced all the old gas lines throughout my basement, this was a serious undertaking for me. I did it in stages, spread over four weekends. The installation manual is very well done...also a good amount of information online & YouTube. And I asked Bruce at HD a thousand questions. I love the tankless water heater. It’s been running about three weeks now...no complaints. 120 degrees is plenty hot and I find it to be pretty quite. Standing outside, it’s quieter than my next door neighbor’s power-vented tanked water heater.
