Great quality. Easy to install.
Love the slow-close feature. Very comfortable.
Quality product
Very solid product. The four seat pedestals give the seat firm positioning. The no slam closure on the lid works well. I would recommend this product to friends and family
Good support under the seat ring
This is the first seat/lid combination that didn't break right away. I wanted the set that had the chrome metal hinges, but it broke the seat within the first day of using it. No, I'm not fat, I'm 6'7" and weigh 285lbs. I did think at first I must be too heavy for it, but I found out the metal hinged ones do not have a seat foot/standoff midway between the front and the back. That's where it always cracked. They are technically made of wood, but they all seem to be this paper product molded into shape and then painted. This seat, however, while the interior construction is probably the same, has that extra support in the middle of the ring on both sides. I do wish it had metal hinges, but I can live with it as long as it won't break. Seems to be a good product so far.
Won't buy this brand again
While I'm fine with nylon/plastic bolts, this one has a awful bolts. I knew when I put them on they wouldn't last long and they made it only 3 days before one fell out.
Attaching hardware not great.
Quality of seat is good. The attaching hardware is terrible. It is all plastic which makes it difficult to tighten it enough to keep it in place. Seat opening is a bit smaller than other seats I’ve had.
Not until they address the problem
Stool seat still moves left to right just as the original plastic one. Called American Standard and they are shipping a new one. Movement of the seat would be solved if they went back to the larger installation bolts used a few years ago. Purchased them separate a couple of times and they do not solve the movement problem since small diameter does not hold the stool tight. Would think engineering at American Standard would wake up
DO NOT BUY THIS SEAT
I’d really give this American Standard toilet seat zero stars. The hinge where it attaches to the toilet broke after 4 months of use. We are a family of 4 with no one over 185lbs. We have no cabinet above the toilet, so the seat was never stepped on or used as a step stool. I tried to return it to my local Lowe’s where I purchased it. Figuring American Standard was a good brand, my initial thought was to just replace it with the same product, figuring the broken hinge was a defect, maybe a one in a million thing. The folks at Lowe’s were very helpful in directing me to American Standard’s phone in warranty line, which I called from in my Lowe’s store. Hoping to get a “replacement authorization” from the rep on the line, however the rep told me that American Standard would not authorize it. I immediately purchased a Kohler seat. I will never purchase another American Standard product again, and I will share my experience with all my friend and family. Shame on American Standard, not standing behind your product!!
Check the seat before you install
This toilet lid does not fit an elongated American Standard toilet. It leaves a gap in the back, or the rim of the toilet sticks out - your choice. The worst part is the seat itself. After installing it, we opened the lid to find that the seat itself is barely finished and very rough to the touch. Terrible fit and quality.
Different?
I thought I was buying two of the same style toilet seats. But when I installed them, they were different. Not bad but shaped differently and look different. The boxes were the same. Just be aware.
Good sturdy wood.
I like that it’s solid wood, it’s a little heavy but it’s not bad, looks very nice. The clips have a better screws and washers and it tightened up better. I bought two to try them, but definitely will get 3 more to replace all the bathrooms in my house. Highly recommend this item.
Doesn’t fit the toilet
We have an American Standard toilet and like other reviews, this toilet seat doesn’t mount far enough back so it hangs over the front of the toilet and looks silly. Worried about messes bc of it too. Will have to buy another one from another brand to replace it.
2 time loser
This is the second American Standard seat we’ve bought and they both broke in the same place after only a couple years of use. First the soft close starts to close crooked. Then the hinge is so off center that when we took it off to see if it needed alignment from the bolts/base of toilet that we noticed the crack of the hinge. After we took it off it completely snapped off. The first one we bought about 4 years ago did the same thing. Only got about 2 years out of each seat. Will NEVER buy American Standard again. Also buying from a different box store to replace and get different brand.
Hinge defect
I bought this from Lowes. A plumber installed it. We found wood chips around the base and cleaned them up. But then we noticed that one of the hinges had torn off. So I bought a second one from the same Lowe's. (This seat has a feature which makes it easy to slip on another seat with the same connectors.) But that too broke at the same hinge after first use. The hinges are screwed into the wood, but just tore off. I don't know why. (Eventually the plumber came back and installed a wooden seat from a different manufacturer). Lowe's refused to take back the defective seats. But future buyers should be warned.
Nice looking, soft close, beware plastic bolts
I've purchased this toilet seat before. It's nice that both the seat and lid are soft close, so you don't have to worry about the kids slamming them. What's not nice are the plastic bolts and nuts. These don't provide a real tight, secure fit to the toilet. I tightened as best as I could and a couple days later I noticed the seat had slid a bit on one side. Over time, with the sliding and wear, the plastic soft close hinges will crack and fail as well - I believe this is what happened with my previous toilet seat that I had for a few years, same exact seat too. Next time around, I may try a different brand than American Standard
America’s New Standard
Piece of junk. Bolt holes too far back making the seat hang over the edge of my elongated toilet. Rubber mounts that allow shifting left and right. Don’t buy unless you want your toilet to look AND FEEL stupid. Moments? Yeah, give me a Moment to collect myself because I feel like I just got off a carnival ride. American standard? There IS no standard anymore!
Great, not non-slip, but I'll let it slide
See what I did there? I was mostly happy to see something sturdy that says it is chip resistant, smooth close, and easy cleaning. I was hoping for slide resistant, and honestly missed the absence of that from the description. So I do not want to knock off more than one star for it. Just be aware that while doing the paperwork, you might do a little toilet surfing.
Disappointed in quality
I purposely ordered the American Standard seat expecting it to fit our AS toilet better than an aftermarket and went with the wood for a better quality. When I installed it I found a chip knocked out of the side, not big or noticable enough to return. The hardware (PVC) won't tighten well enough to keep the seat from slipping slightly, and the seat is almost too long for my enlongated bowl. Slow close mechanism is the only thing that works as it should. Just disappointed that my expectations for product weren't met.
Shipping Damage
I bought two of these American Standard soft close wooden toilet seats and when I got home both had been damaged in shipping. I should have been suspicious when I saw that the boxes had been retaped. Enough of the plastic hardware was damaged that I ended up replacing it with the hardware from my existing toilet seats. I'm sure Lowe's would have taken the damaged seats back but another trip to the store through traffic just wasn't on my list that day. Please, Lowe's, check products for suspected shipping damage before putting it out for sale.
Easy replacement.
I had to return the 1st one that I purchased. Hinge was non functional. I talked to one of the associates in the area when I went back and bought the same one again. Was easy to install and functions quite well.
Doses not fit securely!!
Does not fasten securely!!! Is designed to slip off for cleaning. But it slips each time one uses it!!!!! Other design connectors are secure and one simply lifts the set off it bolted connection.Did not know this would be a slippery connector when I bought it. I may have to toss it and buy another designed product.
