Excellent Range Hood!

We did a lot of looking when we decided on an island cooktop for our kitchen renovation. This range hood is the perfect compliment. It's beautiful with the glass surround so it doesn't cut off the view from the living room through our new window, and easy to clean, it's a little quieter than most and the LED lights really light up the cooktop. There was a part that came dented from the factory and their customer service was stellar sending an immediate replacement! (36" hood over 30" cooktop)

Disappointingly Loud

Hood installed easily, though it took 3 people for one part (two to hold it up and one to install holding screws). Directions were quite brief, but accurate. When it was all done, the blower was much louder than we would have liked, even on its lowest setting.

My biggest complaint is that I also had to purchase the ZLINE 2-12 in. Short Chimney kit. There was no option on Home Depot’s site to purchase the hood with the shorter chimney. That added an additional $75 and now I have a long chimney that is of no value to me. What a waste! Also, after purchasing the short chimney, the support hardware provided with hood had to be cut and drilled. Not what I had expected after paying an additional $75. No hardware was provided with the short chimney.

RANGE HOOD IS DARN NEAR PERFECT - HAD IT 2 YEARS

We purchased and installed this range hood, ZLINE 36" Island Range Hood GL14i-36, about 22 months ago. We'd looked at MANY, so many, range hoods before making our decision to purchase this Z-Line model. We'd looked at many different units from many different manufacturers in many different price ranges in many different, but similar styles. We wanted an elegant look, excellent function (who cares how good it looks if it doesn't work - it has to do its job first and foremost) and easy cleaning. Additionally, I'm tall at 6' 4" so mounting it high enough so that the bottom edge would be above my sight line was an important feature to me, so that I could look at someone on the other side of the island without stooping. Therefore, the ability to mount this up to 36" above the stove top was also an important factor. Fortunately, there was a Range Hood Store near us, so we were able to go there and see their products (if you're not as lucky as we were to be nearby a store, know that everything we saw in the store was high quality and looked like the online pictures). We'd been concerned because of their excellent, very competitive prices that their products might be "cheap" in quality, look or construction WE FOUND OUT THOSE WORRIES WERE UNFOUNDED, so you can order online with confidence even if you have no nearby store to visit in person. Additionally, my wife worried that keeping it clean would be an issue, partly because of the glass portion of this hood. Well, it's pretty darn easy to keep clean and the dishwasher safe filter is nice too. Some people's reviews say that it is loud when in use . . . and, when it's on the highest setting, 4, it is kind of loud, BUT we've found it to be MUCH QUIETER than those BRAND X units in use by some of our friends over their islands. Further, our very quiet dishwasher is certainly louder than this hood, it's just not at ear height like our range hood, which I think may make seem folks think it's louder than it is. One last thing is the fact that there's a set of control buttons on each side of unit and I remember thinking, "There's no need for the duplicate set of buttons, I'll only use the ones on the same side as the stove top control knobs." But, now I cannot tell you just how handy it is to have the duplicate set of controls as we use them far more often than I would have ever thought. So, after almost 2 years we're still happy and we wanted to write this review, so you know you can order with confidence.

Less than a year after installation, the transformer blew on this unit, causing the lights to strobe whenever turned on. The manufacturer sent us a new transformer, but you have to get into the unit to plug it in. A local appliance repair company came out and found that the sleeve around the inner works does not come apart - the only way to get it off is to take the hood down from the ceiling. They declined, and a company they recommended also declined. I called Z-Line for a service recommendation - they had no one. I called Home Depot - they had no one. This is apparently going to cost more than it's worth just to have serviced, or we may have to replace it, which is not covered by warranty. The techs who came out said this is the third hood they've seen with this problem, but other brands were easier to get into. I would recommend passing on this one.
