Auto Lock Feature renders this useless for most

the Autolock built in function locks the door 5 seconds after punching in the code, and Autolock cannot be turned off except by inserting the key on the outside and leaving the key inserted. You cannot pull the key out in the position that disables Autolock. All of this was confirmed by Schlage customer service. Stupid design, renders it useless for me, and not explained anywhere that impossible to disable this feature without leaving the key in the door on the outside!

This keyless lock worked well for the amount of use and the location (1/2 day of direct morning sun). It also dresses up the door and I didn't want another kind. It is also easy to notice when the battery was going out and to change it.

This is a pretty decent combination lock. Installation wasn't too bad. (I've had worse) I only wish that all of the lights lit up once you push one button. I have a dusk to dawn porch light so its not as bad...but if it is really dark it will be difficult to see the keys to push in your combination. Read the direction closely especially how to tuck you battery power wire into its channel clasp. If you have an outside screen door, you might run into the keypad housing interfering with the screen door latch handle. All in all the quality and the value are decent...It works for me!!

Looks real nice and seems very sturdy; works really well so far; was easy to in stall; just be carful when tucking the battery wires back in not to pinch them.... time will tell to see how these locks really hold up ... we also installed a dead bolt keyless lock on our 1st entry door at the same time ... so far so good we are all enjoying going keyless ... Note; we still have a key for our bottom door lock on our 1st entry door; and we still have a key for our top dead bolt on our 2nd entry door; we wanted & tried to install two top & bottom key less locks but they will not fit their bodies hit hit other ... FYI; the key we have to use is the same key for the 1st & 2nd entry doors so we are still happy that we are 99 % keyless ... its a pleasure !!!

I just installed this today, so I can't speak for battery life or longevity as of yet. I did use the included battery, which is just a regular 9V Duracell, so when that needs replacing I'll install a lithium one instead. The install was quite straight-forward and, aside from a few extra steps, was not really any more difficult than installing a standard door knob. Instructions were simple, though a few of the pictures left me momentarily confused. The lock is easy to program and use and all the features worked as expected. The programmable codes are limited to four digits, which was not an issue for me. It seems pretty well constructed. This door knob was installed on our garage door to stop my dad, who has fairly advanced dementia, from sneaking out of the house. Since people need to be able to use that door from either side, using something like a door guardian lock would not have worked. I installed the door knob backwards, so the keypad is on the inside of the house and it will keep him from entering the garage unsupervised. This method wouldn't work on an exterior door (it only locks on one side), but works fantastic for keeping him out of the garage while still making it easy to bring groceries and such into the house. The auto lock is timed just right and seems to work well. I had no issues disabling the lock while testing everything either. I'd definitely recommend this if you're trying to keep someone with dementia from passing through an interior door.

This is the second one of these locks I've installed at home. It's very solidly built and works well. If you are handy, it's easy to install. If you're not handy, invite a handy friend to help. You don't need a locksmith. Some electronic locks use the battery to pull the bolt. This unit just engages the lever to the bolt so moving the lever pulls the bolt. Not a big deal, but a smarter use of battery so it lasts longer. The buttons light up so it's easy to see in the dark. You can change the four digit combination whenever you want without taking it apart.

I really liked this lock for the past four years... until I found that it is now failing in a way that leaves the door unlocked! There is an actuator inside the lock that engages the inner lever to open the door when the correct pin is entered. Normally after a few seconds the actuator retracts and the door becomes locked again. You can hear the click when this happens. Surprise! Now after a few seconds the actuator retracts... just not all the way which leaves the inner lever engaged and the door open. If you play with the outer lever you can hear a second, fainter click as the actuator fully retracts and then the door locks again. But if you are not paying attention the lock stays open forever! That's not what an automatic lock should do, and is a huge security hole for my building. EDIT: How to fix your lock in 10 minutes or less! The root problem is that the linear actuator pushes on a pin to engage the level, and the pin has a lubricant that turns to gum after a few years. Disassemble the lock and spray the pin with WD-40 to dissolve the gum and free the pin. Good as new! Now you don't have to buy another lock to replace the one that is still 99% working. Hints: You need a star key driver to take apart the lock. Carefully pull the top plate off the lock to see how the parts inside are situated. In particular there is a free plastic piece that sits on top of the linear actuator's spring and pushes against the pin. There is no need to compress the spring upon reassembly - the plastic piece has a catch that fits into the spring coils. Just set the plastic bit on top of the spring so that it just touches the top of the pin (this is the normal locked position). Be careful not to lose the very thin, tiny spring that pushes the pin out of the shaft. Without this spring the lock will stay open forever after the pin is engaged.

Has great appearance and step-by-step instructions for installation and use. No, it is not "instant installation" but much easier than assembling those kids Christmas bikes, wagons, and toys! No more fumbling with keys while carrying bags of groceries; use index finger to push four easily accessible buttons. Keep installation instructions for future reference; the battery will need replacement eventually depending on usage but you always have a key backup; works wit or without battery. Manufacture has given 1-2 year battery life depending on useage. I love this product; should be standard on all old and new homes!

I very rarely give out 5 stars. Something has to be jaw dropping perfect to get 5. This lock is a very solid 4-4.5. I have no idea how easy the key lock part is to pick, but the lock as a whole seems well made. I have them on my home and I just installed them on my mother's house. It makes it easier for her to get in without fumbling for keys. It also allows her emergency contacts (police, ambulance, ...) to enter the house to check up on her. The lock installed easily in a door that had already had a lock in it. The programming is a tad difficult. Too much for my 90 year old mother, but easily enough with the instructions in front of you. The level door knob is also very nice for the elderly. Much easier to open then a round knob for stiff hands. The only negative I have with the lock is the battery location. You have to remove the inside part of the lock to gain access. There is no simple cavity with a door. The batteries are inside the lock and hence you need to take the thing apart. Now to Schlage's credit, they did provide a mechanism to hold the outside part of the lock in place while you take off the inside, but still. I think they need to sharpen their pencil and come up with a better solution.

My teen forgot her keys one time but was left outside in the cold for about 2 hours. Although I dont think she will forget her keys again, I wanted to make sure something like that wouldnt happen again. I chose this product because it looked nice and because Ive had locks from the brand before. The install directions were very straight forward and took about 30 minutes. It fit in our existing knob hole. Our bolt lock is much higher so we didnt have to worry about them being too close. The knob can be set to automatically lock when the door closes. The inside knob can still move up and down even when locked. I can see why this wouldnt be a good idea if there are little kids in the house. This isnt an issue for us and are happy with the product.

This is the 3rd Schlage door lock I buy in the last 2 years. I have these on all of my properties now. The other 2 are same thing as this but deadbolt type. All 3 are easy to program. The only downside is changing batteries once a year. One lock like this I have in use for a year and 5 months now with original battery, and [I hear I might start noticing battery dying, but] no sign or it going yet- it's quick to "shift" and "shifts" from locked to unlocked an back instantly. I'm not doing the reaching for the key, etc. routing. Forget about the old "Have you got the key?"... Or my favorite... "We are waiting for you to bring the key." I like having the door handle too, and the fact that you can alway exit- no guests turning knobs in all directions not able to exit- I've seen that one literally 10's of times. This lock always allows you to exit, it's the outside handle that is either opening the door or not. I like having a door handle instead of a knob too. Now I have a way of opening the door when I carry a 5 gallon water bottle in each hand (Yes right, I'll just use my knee. And you are good at guessing :) When I go to Hawaii and ask my friends to feed the cat while I"m snorkeling and kicking back, I'll give them some 9999 temporary code, this way they won't tell me they lost the key or forgot the code :)

This is my second Schlage keypad lock, and I really like the convenience of them. I have both of mine paired with a keyed deadbolt, so they aren't my primary security measure, but I feel like they could be because they both feel very solidly made. Installation is very easy, at least if you're doors already have a handle installed (like mine did) so that the holes are already drilled. Swapping out the old handle and putting this in was pretty quick work. I had to reverse the handles, but that took about a minute, and the instructions show you exactly how to do it. The instructions also make it very easy to program in your own code(s) to open the door, and let you customize some things (like turning off the beeping noise when you push a button). The one thing that I've run into twice is having the bolt line up with the strike plate. My older locks are Kwikset, and it's probably just how the bolt holes and plates were installed years ago, but both Schlage units were every so slightly off. On this second one, I reinstalled the older Kwikset strike plate, and it worked great. So, maybe just try your old strike plate first before you take it off to install the one that comes with this unit. The handles are nice and smooth, and they swivel nicely without hanging up. They just have a great quality feel to them. Some tips - (1) pushing the "Schlage" button at the top center will light up the buttons for you, which is nice at night, and (2) pushing that same button will also reset entry of the code (so if you accidentally hit the wrong number midway through, you don't have to wait for it to reject the entry and start again...you just hit the Schlage button and then start again). My only regret is waiting so long to get a second one. Well worth the $100 it cost me.

Just received this, I bought this to replace my door knob after my security system put in a keyless deadbolt with the system. Down side to that is one they don't match, and two if I lock the regular lock, the keyless entry doesn't do much good. Pro's : So this one is the only keyless entry I found that has a handle. Actually matches my other door knobs I just bought. I like that part. It does instantaneously lock which I like with the kids and the wind will blow the door open easily. Also Handles will go either way. Conns: Just know there isn't a regular lock on the inside, and no way of knowing if it's locked. If you push the handle it'll just open. You have to go outside to know if it's locked, and I guess go through another door. Call me crazy but that doesn't give reassurance. Cons: I have 2 other keyless entry locks. They both have easy access to the battery, and have locks inside. Who would make you take off the whole door knob off to replace a battery. I'm a female so 10 door knobs later have figured these out. But an old lady and most normal people do not want to change a battery not alone a whole door knob. And every time you replace a battery, every few months, about 4 times a year, sounds crazy. And wear on parts, screwing and unscrewing. Still debating about whether to keep it. I procrastinate on changing the other batteries , couldn't imagine me taking a door knob off every time the battery goes out. That's crazy! Would not buy again for that reason. The handle is the only reason I might keep it and it locks right away, so just in case the other keyless entry runs out of battery or something happens.

Great locks! I've purchased many locks over my career of commercial building maintenance, most electronic locks are a big miss. These locks are great. Easy to install and easy to program, very durable and nice looking. I'm a big fan of Schlage locks over Kwickset. Schlage locks just seem more durable. I've installed eight of these in my current building and two on my home. Batteries last a long time, we're talking years with heavy use. The only negative I can say is that every so often, the push buttons are non responsive. This may be a safety feature to make sure someone isn't trying to guess the code. You just have to wait a few seconds if you pressed in the wrong code too many times then the correct code will work. Nice that it has a standard key in case you forgot the code or the electronic parts stop working although neither has happened to us.

This is by far one of the smartest purchases we have made especially with a house full of teenagers coming and going and elderly parents who misplace their keys. We have one at the front door with a code only for the immediate family. Sleepovers with the kids are given a special code that can be deleted once their friends leave. You can change the code anytime and not sure but think you can have 5 different codes. Slowly I have replaced all the locks with these. I bought the Schlage Touch because it was cheaper at first for the side garage and back door. But both at different intervals quit working. This one has outlasted all of them. This is great for when you just want to leave and dont have to worry "Did I lock the front door?". Basically you are never locked out of your home (Unless you are my mother and calls you because she cant remember the 4 numbers!) The downside is its pricey compared to a regular lock, but seriously you wont regret it. Home Essentials Direct has the cheapest price for it.

I love this lock as you never need a key. No more fumbling in your pocket or locking yourself out. I found the lock fairly easy to install. Please follow the instructions but I did detail some highlights and show some pictures. This lock is a little different than others I have owned in that it automatically locks itself when the door is closed. Installation Steps 1. Remove old lock 2. Add lock that faces out. Be sure to unscrew the brass colored screw which will temporary hold the lock when attached to the black plate 3. Make connection to battery and unit then tuck in wires. 4. Attach lock facing the inside of the door with two provided screws. Code Programming: The program and user codes can be found on the sticker attached to the users guide. I didnt find the instructions as straightforward as I would have liked, so I rewrote then below. Steps 1. Enter Program Code listed on the sticker. You will hear/see 3 orange lights and beeps. 2. Press the Schlage button and the light will turn blue. 3. Press the number 1 and you will hear/see 3 orange lights 4. Enter your new 4 digit code you will hear/see 3 orange lights 5. Enter your new user code again and then you will see the green light and long beep. You now have the new code programmed. I was NOT given a unit to use and provide a review.

The only thing I will add here because I ran out of room in the other review , this lock went on the interior garage door for several reason(1) cheaper then the Camelot and works great at work but not as pleasing to the eye. (2) yes it does have a key backup unlike the Camelot which uses two small protrusions that you touch a nine volt battery to. But the key for this lock can be hidden in the garage very easily and safely. I do wish they would make the key lock part anti bump proof. That was another reason the Camelot locks went to the front doors as there is no lock to pick. I believe either Plymouth or Camelot will do you well. Again locks only keep honest people, nosy, curious people out. The criminal that really wants in locks only slow them down, and most will find use a different way in. The home invasion they kick the front door in, that why I also use a steel security door(which does really look nice)which opens outward (cant kick it inward). Also my windows are protected by a product known as hurricane screen mesh or other terms, Look it up on line really worth it also.
