Don't waste your money

Purchased 2 just a little under 3years ago; we noticed our water bill going up and tracked it down to the toilets leaking and refilling the tanks. One of them about every 15 minutes would refill the tank. left a message with american standard and sent an email with pictures of what is happening. called a plumer and he tried to purchase the 2 flappers NO ONE CARRIES THEM. Called American standard and it been over a week with no response.

Champion no more

For years I’ve installed the Champion in all my projects. In the last year, I’m finding brand new Champions fail and it just keeps happening.

Very Poor Standard

At the time, I didn't know I was buying cheap toilets at $170 each (3 total) from a local "home center". I thought a toilet was a toilet. They were disappointing and wouldn't clear away debris. So I researched and decided on the American Standard toilets at roughly $600 each (3 of them totalled nearly $1800) thinking that I'd be getting a far superior product. They're definitely an improvement over the cheap seats, but still disappointing because one of the three must be flushed twice (almost always) because the flush is weak and also the flapper catches in the open position sometimes causing the toilet to run constantly (rarely). And another of the three is deformed at the base and should never have made it past quality control. I'm keeping them because I'm tired of swapping toilets over and over again ... but I don't recommend this product/brand at all.

Poor quality

Tank cracked/leaked, caulking poorly done on insulation inside tank. Defects in finish, have to hold the handle for the toilet to flush properly. Would not recommend.

Terrible! I’ve owned the same toilet but in the 2 piece configuration without any issues EVER. This 1 piece toilet is the worst flushing toilet I’ve ever installed.

Very well built. It’s our 2nd American Standard. Sticking to this brand. 3 weeks installed

Bowl design grips waste

This toilet would be great except the bowl is designed so it retains fecal matter every time it is used. The powerful flush doesn't remove poo residue from the bowl, so it is not a clean flush. This means that it has to be cleaned every single day. I would never recommend this and plan to replace it as soon as I can find a toilet with a bowl designed for clean flush.

Came to me with a thaw in the casting. Leaked after I paid to have installed.

The toilet was fairly simple to install as it was a once piece. Flushing mechanism is very strong. Overall excellent toilet.

Excellent flush

We've had these toilets for 17 years and they still work great. Did need to replace the flapper once, but the toilet works better than any I've used.

Most of us already know, for the money, American Standard's "Champion 4" toilet is unmatched for flushing ability. Just look at the parts specs & compare it with anything else on the market.

UNREASONABLE PRICE INCREASE AS OF 2023. APRIL 2023

Purchased this toilet in 2020 and it was $356.72. In April 2023 it is now $501.80. Completely unreasonable.

Still clogs

We bought the toilet to hopefully eliminate our old toilet that clogged frequently. This one has clogged TWICE in two weeks. An expensive replacement has left us with the same problem and we are unhappy and disappointed.

No bolts

I was told this came with everything except the seal. It didn't come with any bolts. So I had to go to the hardware store while the plumber was here, costing me extra money for the service.

THE TOILET DOES NOT FLUSH WELL

THE TOILET LOOKS GOOD BUT DOES NOT FLUSH GOOD. THE FLUSH BULB DROPS TO FAST AND DOES NOT EMPTY THE HOLDING TANK. POOR DESIGN FOR FLUSHING. ALOT OF THE WATER REMAINS IN THE TANK AFTER YOU FLUSH IT. YOU HAVE TO HOLD THE HANDLE DOWN TO GET A DESCENT FLUSH. THE FLUSH BULB DESIGN DOES NOT ALLOW THE TANK TO RELEASE ALL OF THE WATER.

Champion One-Piece toilet

On my previous Champion One-Piece 1.6 etc, the trip lever mechanism wore out. Specifically the neoprene nut inside the tank holding the mechanism tight to the tank would no longer screw tight. I just now replaced this unit for the toilet that was installed in March 2014

Leaked from gouges in tank

The inside of the tank had gouges on the back near one of the parts. There was also a separate scratch. The gouges and scratch caused the outside of the tank to leak on the side. The gouges were visible in normal light so I don't know how this made it out of the factory. I took it back didn't replace with this brand. I had bought this because it was one piece and I thought it would have less of a chance of leaking.

Not a right height toilet

The description implies that it's a right height 16 1/2" bowl rim.
