More Induction Cooktops

Reviews

Love my new cafe!

Love this cooktop! I used to have an induction cook stove in the house we sold. The new house we purchased had an electric cooktop. I had to have induction. It cooks so much better. I researched for 4 months and decided on the cafe. It is wonderful!

Great technology but there is a learning curve

This is a great fun to use stovetop, but I hope you can learn from my mistakes. They will tell you about the test for your old pots and pans. If a magnet sticks to the bottom of the pot or pan it will PROBABLY work.

Love it!

Love the responsiveness and the intuitive nature of the controls. Easy cleanup and streamlined appearance are big pluses. Cooktop is quick and efficient. I love this appliance!

Sleek modern efficient

I couldn’t be happier with how efficient it is to not only cook but clean! I am in love with how sleek it looks. I was nervous about magnetic pits but it turned out most of my pots and pans already had magnetic bottoms including my beloved cast iron pan.

Slick

We've been using our cooktop for a little over a month and really love it. It's has taken some getting used to but it's a pretty quick learn.

I don’t miss gas at all!!!!

I love it! It heats up so quickly and when turned off the pan may still be hot but not the cooktop. So much safer than gas or conventional electric. It cleans so easily. Test your pots and pans with a magnet if in doubt. I bought a new set of beautiful cookware and you don’t get the stains and discoloration that comes with flames. The controls operate easily. Be sure to read the instructions so that you know what to expect. There is a slight hum that may concern you if not forewarned. I love this product!

Poor quality from Cafe

4 months after installation, cooktop stops working for no reason and won't turn on. Only way to turn it back on is to reset breaker. This have been a nuisance. Overall I ordered 3 GE Cafe appliances and all of them have to be replaced.

Love the controls

Love the controls and the accuracy. Coming from had I didn't know what to expect and have been pleasantly surprised. It also looks great. The only gripe I had was I installed it myself and some of the installation supplies (gaskets and screws) were missing.

Don't choose Cafe

We had a Cafe induction cooktop in our previous home. It was great. When we bought the current house, we figured we couldn't go wrong with another Cafe cooktop. The tone you're supposed to hear when you touch controls is barely audible, even on "High". Service man came out, asked why I spent so much when cheaper induction cook tops are available. He then called GE, and, as I stood there, was told "that's just the way it is." GE is now a Chinese company. Avoid it. Try Bosch. Great products, all.

Awkward sizes - requires overly large cookware.

Awkward sizes for cookware, I agree with the earlier review there is no mid-size. It only takes very large base cookware (10" or more), or very small base cookware. The main circle on the right will shut off if the cookware is too small in circumference which is EXTREMELY frustrating, and requires overly bulky pots. This was a horrible design decision - do not purchase this cooktop if you have medium size pots and pans.

No Mid-size cooking zone

Does not have a mid-size cook area for saute pans, requiring either a very large saute pan or cooking over a burner much smaller than the pan. This is particularly an issue for omelettes.

Glass too fragile!

Looks great, cooks great. BUT, the corner chipped off glass cooktop under normal use . . . .in hindsight this glass cooktop sits on a granite counter and there is no perimeter bezel for cushioning between the hard counter and the hard glass, so i am not surprised that the corner chipped. perhaps we set a pot down on the corner? I can tell you, we had always been very careful with this cooktop, so i must conclude that this unit is not properly built to withstand normal use. I didn't even price the cooktop replacement, I'm sure its over $1000 installed.

Do not Buy-Glass not warrantied/defective

Do not buy this product. We have two of these and the glass cracked at the corner on both. The most recent (picture included) was a medium pot lid slid of a pot and cracked the glass. GE service (800)663-6060 informed me that the glass is not covered under warranty from day one and that the warranty on the rest of the unit is one year. The only option for a 3500$ cooktop is to open a service call. The technician charges 30$/15 minutes for labor and the part is sold by a third party which the GE support manager offered to do a google search to give me an estimate which was around 1340$. This basically will cost half the price of the unit and it will not be warrantied either.

Love this Cooktop!

I am new to induction cooking. There has been a learning curve for me, but overall I am loving this cooktop. It is so easy to clean compared to my previous glass cooktop. I love when you turn a burner off, you don't have to remove the pan. It immediately stops cooking.
