[Rewarded Review] Great middle of the road model.
I purchased this dryer with the matching washer about a month ago. It has been getting a workout since. This model LG is less expensive and has fewer bells and whistles than the more expensive ones, but most of those extra features I would never use. This one does everything that I need it to do and does it well. And it is so quiet! Even with the laundry room door open we can barely hear it. The inside drum is huge and I can wash and dry my king-sized comforters easily. The lint filter is large and does a great job of removing pet hair. Overall I love my LG dryer.
This dryer has major sensor issues
We have had this dryer for a year and it has had sensor issues days after we bought it. It constantly says d80 or d90 and shuts off often. We had our vents cleaned as suggested costing over $100. This did not fix the issue. After calling Lowes Service Department, they cannot find anybody to come to repair this LG dryer and it is now being replaced with what they call a buy-out. The warranty is NOT TRANSFERRABLE, and you have to buy a new warranty for the replacement dryer in case something goes wrong with the replacement.
Was a great dryer but it’s destructive
We’ve had this dyer for quite a few years now. It works well, I dry everything on low. I have this one issue and no matter what I try, it rips up clothes. Somewhere in the lint catcher, it snags ties from hoodies, draw strings on pants, and it’s even snagged shirts in the corner. I’ve tried smaller loads and it still seems to snag clothes every once in a while. I’ve been hoping a recall would come from this but I haven’t seen any other people complain about this. Maybe we got a defective lent catch area. I don’t know, I’m about to sell it though. Other than that, the dryer works like a dyer.
Great Dryer
This machine replaced my 27 year old dryer, which finally cratered. I bought the matching top load washing machine at the same time. The washing machine spins the clothes so well that they are practically dry. My drying time for a normal load with this new pair has gone from 40+ minutes to 20 minutes. Given that heat (or cooling) is the major contributor to high electricity bills, this reduced drying time will save me tons of money. Cleaning the lint trap every time is essential as some people have mentioned the lint falls off the screen, I'm assuming when it gets too heavy. I love the see-through door, as I sometimes forget I have clothes in the dryer.
Sensor makes this junk
We loved the dryer when we got it. We had our vent cleaned prior to installation. We had 3 months of use and now receive error messages d80 or d90 after every load. Sometimes it will shut off every few minutes. We had someone out to clean the vent again, There was hardly any lint. Called LG because it's still under warranty and they sent a tech who seemed to know very little and said he could not find a problem and left. So we are left with a pretty useless dryer. We do have a long vent. Still under warranty for this month but we are not hopeful of a solution. Probably will have to buy an old school dryer which is not "smart" and just dries the darn clothes. PLEASE PLEASE be aware of this. We are going to be out 700 bucks!
[Rewarded Review] Always leave clothes damp, doesn't work
I'm severely disappointed in this machine. Simply put, it doesn't dry. Some of my clothes come out wet on every setting. I talked to customer service and they had me try a long list of fixes, but in the end it seems poorly designed. I'm now stuck using timed dry as the sensors just don't do the job. And, for some inane reason if you change the time the temperature automatically changes, so I have to enter everything in a specific order. My 20 year old dryer had no trouble doing any of things. I'm happy with the matching washer, but this unit sucks and is a waste of my time.
Beware of the Sensor Issues
Wow, I've had the same dryer in my home for 12+ years. We recently switched to LG. Apparently they have sensors that detect blockages in your vents in your home. Well, we've never had issues before and clean the vent as often as possible yet for the LG and it's super sensitive sensor it picks up on blockages that other dryers do not. This causes the dryer to cut off. When you call support, they are programmed to tell you it's your house that's the problem not the dryer. I'd HIGHLY recommend staying away from buying this unit due to the sensors.
[Rewarded Review] Good dryer, but unexpected install & look of unit.
Overall a good machine. However, there were two issues.
Fantastic Dryer
I purchased this dryer to replace the one we have had for years. After looking at a lot of dryers and reading product reviews I went with this. Swapping the door opening to open from the right was a little time consuming, though given the construction of it, made perfect sense. The biggest bonus is the built in safety features. There is an air flow sensor that tells you if there is a blockage, and what percentage, in your dryer vent line. If it wasn't for that, I would have had no idea how bad the line was in the 20 year old house we purchased, and I was able to clean it all out. It also has a built in overheat sensor that will turn the dryer off if it is starting to overheat. Drying wise, the controls are easy to use, and so far it has done a great job with everything from cloths to towels.
Sensor dry doesn't work, but otherwise great
I bought this to replace an almost 20 year old LG dryer I loved that recently stopped working. The sensor dry on my old dryer worked great, but it doesn't work at at all on this one. I have tried all sort of different size and type loads on the sensor dry setting and they are always still very damp at the end of the cycle, which is why I'm only giving a four-star rating. The timed dry settings work great, so I just use those. I really don't need fancy settings on my dryer; I just want it to efficiently dry my family-of-five's laundry and be large enough to fit a king-sized comforter, which this does. There's no interior light, which I knew when I bought it. My old dryer had one, but I don't really miss it. The lint trap is in the door frame and it easy to use. Make sure you clean it after each load. I discovered the "flow sense" light will sometimes start blinking if it's starting to get lint build-up on the trap, even if it's not much. That "flow sense" indicator started blinking after the first or second load of laundry I dried in it and I was frustrated that it was throwing this error when I know the duct is clean (and the dryer is brand new), but it seems to resolve after I clean the lint trap, when it happens, even if there's not a lot of lint on it. The dryer vent duct that the delivery guys brought wasn't long enough to hook up, so they had to use our existing duct, which we had just cleaned out, so I was fine with that. The guy even checked it for me to make sure it was clean. Our washer and dryer are in our basement and the dryer sits directly below the dryer vent, and from the dryer to the outside vent, the duct has to stretch about 7 feet. Just something to keep in mind if you have a similar distance from the dryer to your vent because they are supposed to connect a brand new duct when the delivery drivers do the installation.
[Rewarded Review] Great if you have the perfect ductwork
I wanted to love this and keep it. It dried.. and quickly. BUT every load from the very beginning threw an error code. One of which would void the warranty if we kept the machine and kept having issues. It kept throwing a flowsense error. We replaced all of our venting. Made sure everything was open and clean. Our vent is a little long and runs up. Turns out this is a common issue for this machine with any venting that is a little longer. So if you have longer duct work I don’t recommend. But if you have normal it was a great machine for the two weeks we had it other than the constant error codes.
[Rewarded Review] Pleased with my "open box" purchase
I have purchased several BB open box items from unseen TVs to this LG dryer. I have NEVER been disappointed. (I do review what I purchasing). Regarding the dryer. I purchased it primarily because it was on sale and had an additional reduced sale price due to a "dent". Cosmetic and not visible now that it is in place. Since open box, it didn't come with a manual which I had to obtain online. While relatively simple to use, I did need to go directly to LG to figure out how to use the cycle options. Halfway through my first load, the clothes were spinning without heat. I was certain the dryer was a dud. I found online a few similar "complaints" only to learn that none of us, including myself, understood the energy saver mode, a default setting. Heat only comes on after the first half of the cycle. I thought this was foolish. I researched the energy mode and in fact while it takes a few minutes longer to dry, there is a nice energy savings. I use the energy mode exclusively and find everything does come out dry. I hope this helps someone else. I've only had the dryer several weeks but so far pleased with the purchase.
[Rewarded Review] Not reliable, Not smart diags, ThinQ app terrible
Lasted 10 days before it stopped drying. The unit would not go into drying mode and the cool light would stay on. Not messing around with another LG. Tried the Smart Diagnostics and that was a frustrating experience as well. this particular dryer is not a wifi unit and therefore the option to add to to the app is very hidden. I tried several times to add it and the app says its not supported, then kicks out out to the website. I finally figured out that you have to add it manually because its not a wifi dryer, its very hidden within the app at the bottom of the page. Once that was done the diagnostics said there was nothing wrong, what a joke. After all that I just returned the unit, it's not worth the hassle of an exchange to risk another unit dying in 10 days again.
[Rewarded Review] There are better dryers for your money
While this dryer fulfills its title, its sensor function doesn't work well. I've owned this dryer for at least 6 months and the clothes have still been damp using sensor mode, which leads me to need to use the manual or timed dry functions to complete drying. Also, if you have a small load, they're less likely to be dry using sensor mode.
